Nighthawk x500

My nighthawk router just dies while rebooting and I can’t connect to it. I have a virgin cable router that I was using in modem mode and the nighthawk as a router. I’ve had to switch the virgin modem into router mode. I’ve tried plugging my Mac directly into it. I’ve tried a factory reset with no success. Anyone give a pointer. I might also try to use it as an access point. I’ve also a wac104 access point that I want to update the firmware security update but won’t touch it until I get the nighthawk running again. The warranty has expired but it’s got a fantastic signal so I want to get it going again.
Anyone help?

    You have the XR500?

What actual firmware is on it?

What actually happens. You put it dies. Does the led's run through a cycle, are all the led's on and solid, can you ping it?

You've put what you've tried but not what the router is doing/results your getting

  • As above, could you explain a bit more about what exactly happens? How are you rebooting it, pulling the power, using the button or via the interface?

Hi thanks for your replies. I’ve realised it was a typo. It died. I rebooted it using the interface but it froze and the interface screen went blank white. I’ve tried plugging it in directly with Ethernet to my laptop and trying both router login.net and 192.168.1.1. But I’ve not been able to get it to the interface screen since. I might be doing something wrong in the way I’m connecting it. When it switches on one red light comes on but that’s possibly because it’s not connected to the modem. I use my virgin media router as a modem and the x500 as a router. Haven’t had a single problem with it before, signal is really strong. I’m not a gamer but my son is and he says it’s never dropped out and he’s on the second floor of the house. Warranty has expired but I don’t want to give up on it especially as it was £250 and worth every penny until this happened. I It’s disconnected and I’ve switched my virgin router to router mode for now. I’m just at a loss what to do. I tried a factory reset but no joy. There’s probably something I’m doing in the sequence of trying to get it going and my son now lives 300 miles away ( ironically as IT support) and he’s not back till august. Any suggestions welcome

Hold the reset button for 30 seconds, release, wait 2 minutes then try to connect to the interface using 192.168.1.1 and see whether that gives you access
