XR500 - Brick

Hi, all !

Not long ago when I returned home, I found that my router was not working. The power button is constantly red. The reset button didn't help. When connected to the LAN port, the corresponding indicator started working. It was like a firmware failure. After watching the forum I found a few guides:

https://kb.netgear.com/000059633/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-TFTP-client

https://kb.netgear.com/19841/Reinstall-the-firmware-on-a-router-without-the-setup-CD-recovery-tool

https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP

When connected to a computer, the router is pinged by 50 - 25% unstable.

Next, I found that if you turn off the router. Wait 10 seconds. Press the RESET button and turn on the router. The power indicator will first be red, then it will start flashing and become blinking white. And now it will become 100 % pinged. All pokets has returned.

TFTP2exe and TFTPd64 is worked now. The firmware is erased and a new one is recorded. I've tried several versions of the firmware but to no avail for me. After the restart, the router returns to the red button. What else can I try? Any thoughts?

I also have to add that I have a suspicion of power outages in my apartment building. The clock showed the wrong time. All other equipment works properly for me and my neighbors. Can I count on a warranty in this case? I created ticket on netgear.com but don`t get feedback. And call to they very hard.

I bought the router in January 2020 on the www.computeruniverse.de. My geolocation in Russian Federation.

  • Just to clarify, once you get it working a reboot makes it broken again? When you get it working could you try a factory reset and see if that helps at all?

When I use TFTPd64 router reboot automatically. If use TFTP2exe the indicator remains blinking white. After a few minutes, I restart the router myself. Red indicator again. I didn't try the reset button at this point. I'll use it today.

When indicator is blinking white, button RESET don’t effectively. Nothing is happening. Now I'm leaning towards the fact that the problem is in the hardware.

The TFTP method can be tricky to get working as the timing is important, you've mentioned programs for TFTP there, did you use TFTP via Command Prompt that is what I have used before.
