XR500 restarting with multiple 5G connections

Hello, let me start off by saying I am by no means a network engineer.

I have been using the XR500 for a while now, and have been experiencing this issue from time to time, however it seems to be happening more often since I upgraded by internet package.

When there are multiple (3-4) devices connected to the 5G and downloading/streaming the router restarts. It appears to power down and the two lights on the left side turn to orange instead of white.

This doesn't seem to happen at all when all the devices are connected to 2.4ghz.

I have tried having the router plugged directly into the wall. Current firmware is the most recent - V2.3.2.134

Any ideas?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

What speed package do you have now? UP and Down that you pay for?

Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?

Try disabling the following and see:
    Armor, QoS, Traffic Meter.

      Hello!

The modem is an Arris TG4482 and I have the modem in bridge mode. Modem lights do not change when the Nighthawk power cycles. I am using a new cat6 cable. I believe I am paying for gigabit and I get 922.14Mbps down on speedtest.

When the router resets after too many 5G connections it essentially power cycles so I do lost connection on my wired pc until it powers back up.

Right now 2.4 channel is auto and 5ghz is channel 44.

I can try disabling QoS but I don't have anything set up there. Where is Armor?

  • This might be hard to resolve without some logs but we'll see if we can narrow it down. Judging by how you phrased it, it sounds like you have Smart Connect disabled is that right? If so, if you enable Smart Connect and then download/stream on those devices (so they will auto switch to 5GHz) do you get the same issue?

Correct, I currently have Smart Connect disabled. I will try running it with it enabled for a while.

One other thing I tried is I moved the router to a completely different wall outlet. In the past 24 hours it has only reset once while I was trying to stress it out by having a lot of devices streaming over 5G. It would usually restart multiple times per day.

      Possibly a power issue?

Might also enable 160Mhz as well on the router.

Check the Nighthawk mobile app for Armor activation. If it's not active then your ok.

What devices do you have connected on 5Ghz and what kinds if downloads or streaming are you doing all at once?
