Please navigate to the link below for step-by-step instructions on how to update your RBR750/RBS750:
Be sure to update the RBS FIRST, then the RBR lastly.
I HIGHLY recommend after the FW is loaded on the system and it's back to ready, power OFF all Orbi units and the ISP modem/ONT for 1 minute. Then back ON with the ISP modem/ONT first, then RBR then RBS.
The best advise we can give people is to start a new config, power on one RBS and wait for some SOLID light or most often blue or magenta. And then add the RBS WIRELESSLY via the WebUI. Power off the RBS. Then rinse and repeat with any additional RBS(s). Pair RBS one at a time even if you have more than one. For ethernet connected RBS, after things come up wirelessly, you can move to wired backhaul but don't start with wired backhaul for those RBS that are ethernet connected. Wirelessly connect and sync RBS first before ethernet connecting RBS.
NOTE: Orbi app or the routers web page may not report seeing new FW updates. NG may not push this to there auto update services immediately and may activate the newer FW update being seen on there auto update services at a later time. User will have the choice to manually update if you want too.
NOTE: The Disable Auto Update feature only prevents ANY new FW from being installed if available. This does NOT prevent the system from checking NG services to see if new FW is available. If new FW is available, this will be displayed as a notification to the user on the RBRs web page only. It will be up to the user to upgrade FW or not.
A factory reset maybe needed if problems are encountered after the FW update:
https://kb.netgear.com/31486/How-do-I-reset-my-Orbi-system-to-factory-default-settings
NOTE: Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200

Followed the directions and upgraded. Did the RBS750 units first and then the RBR750. Appears to be working well.
One important note, I did need to restart each RBS750 after the RBR750 was upgraded to re-establish connection. As each is on a UPS and mounted on the all, required a ladder.
Otherwise working fine at this time.
I didn't see the "IoT" network feature at first. You need to go into Wireless setup. You'll then see a "Wireless IoT Settings' and the ability to "enable" an IoT wireless SSID along with password.
Nice to have this feature added finally. I believe it's important to have a Trusted, IoT and Guest wireless SSID.

Yesterday afternoon I installed the 7.2.6.21 firmware on my RBR750 and 2 x RBR750S devices. The backhaul connection between satellites and router is wired.
While my network has been fine/stable, I have 3 x August Connect Smartlocks/bridges that give multiple connect/disconnect messages during the day so I wanted to see if the IoT wifi update on this new firmware resolved the August issues or not.
The brief summary is that the upgrade did NOT go well, and it was around 3-4 hours to finally resolve the issues with the Satellites not connecting properly, and some really weird behavior.
In more detail:
- Downloaded the RBR and RBS firmwares
- Updated the 2 satellites to 7.2.6.21 which seemed to go ok, although the RBR webpage still initially showed the devices as being on the old firmware that I assumed was a caching or other minor issue.
- Updated the router which seemed to go ok
- Rebooted the Satellites, and then the Router
- Logged back into the Router web page and noticed that the 'Attached Devices' widget showed Number of Satellites as 0 (instead of2)
- Clicked through to see Attached Devices and saw 1 Satellite attached via Wire and the other Satellite not connected. (the widget still showed 0)
- Went and checked the Satellites and no magenta or other flashing/solid lights. Devices attached to the Satellites e.g. FireTV all worked and I could also connect and login to each Satellite.
- Decided to reboot Satellites again, things got worse from here. Neither Satellite showed up on Attached Devices, some WiFi devices started to error on 'No Internet' connection. Yet I could still login to the Satellites by directly typing the IP address
- Decided to reflash the Satellites - no differences
- After a couple more hours of trying various things I pretty much gave up, I could connect to the Satellites, but for some reason the RBR was not seeing them. Sometimes devices connected to the RBSs worked, sometimes they didn't.
- Decided to finally reset the Satellites, remove the cable and get them set up by wireless - this worked and the Satellites showed up correctly in the Attached Devices and widget and Detail page
- Replugged in the backhaul cables and waited 5 or so minutes to see what happened
- Things returned to normal, Satellites appear to be working, WiFi devices are connecting to Satellites/Router as expected.
So not a smooth experience, but so far appears to all be working now.
It's too early to tell if the IoT wifi 2.4Ghz I have set up will solve the August connect/disconnect alerts issue.

Something to keep in mind for next time you update FW. After the RBS and RBR have returned to ready from getting the FW file sent, Power OFF the RBS and RBR for 30 seconds, then back ON with the RBR then RBS. Seems to help stabilize the system. This is a major step in FW so could see odd things. Why I mentioned a power cycle in this post and as last resort, factory reset and setup from scratch.
What CAT# LAN cable are you using between the RBR and RBS?
Are the RBS directly connected to the back of the RBR or is there a LAN switch and or LAN patch panel in between them?
Glad it's working now. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
https://kb.netgear.com/000062080/How-do-I-back-up-the-configuration-settings-on-my-Orbi-WiFi-SystemI realized I made an error in my write up on step 4. I did reboot the RBR first, and then the RBSs second per the instructions in post 1.
I also forgot to mention that in step 11 when I decided to reset and sync the RBSs that the RBR webpage that I used to do the RBR side of the sync showed 'Sync Failed' for both RBS syncs, even though the synching worked and I could finally see the RBSs correctly show in the Attached Devices.
To answer the questions:
- Cat 6 cable - System has worked fine except with firmware upgrades so I see this as more an issue with Netgear software than my infrastructure.
- RBSs connected into a Netgear GS116 switch

So, that could have gone better. Last night, per initial post guidance, updated satellite and then the router. I also did a 60+ second power cycle of each afterward. Immediately, it appeared the update was fine. Everything looked ok. I could login to each web interface and no issues. Quick note, I was on the latest 4.x version prior to the update. I also had not factory reset either the satellite or router in a long time (probably a year or two).
Later, (about an hour) wife noticed Xbox (hard-wired through RBS750 unit which is also hard-wired to the RBR750 unit) couldn't get on the internet. I power cycled the Satellite, switched from Wi-Fi to wired and back, then finally tried resetting it by holding the pin hole until the power led starting blinking amber. It just sat there hard-blinking white (off and on) over and over endlessly. When I pressed the sync button, it would immediately switch to soft-blink white (instead of off/on, it would fade out and fade on). But just endlessly and never latch on. The router would show it was disconnected. Funny thing, even while wireless and showing unhappy on both sides (satellite blinking, and router showing disconnected), I was able to get to the satellite admin webpage. Go figure. Ended up removing the Satellite from the router config (attached devices) and then resetting it again (pin hole) and then using the wizard in the router to add it back again (the sync button on the router stopped triggering any action, no blinks, no lights, etc). With wireless (and 3-4 feet from the router), the satellite would switch to magenta/pink which instructions say it failed the handshake. Finally, after several tries, I switched the satellite back to wired again, and only after being wired, the satellite finally went blue for the first time (happy connection). I moved the satellite back to its normal wired home and it stayed up and happy.
Fast forward to this morning, noticed signal on my phone was only 1-2 bars. I was far from the satellite but within 10 feet on the router. Sigh.
So, I just reset the router (did it via the menu within the web interface, *not* via the pin hole on the back. Went through the setup process and reconfigured everything manually (took screenshots before and didn't restore settings I had backed up just to be on the safe side).
After the reset, some notes:
*Oddly, the satellite rejoined (wired) without having to press the sync button.*Web interface at one point went Asian characters on me (language set to Auto) after initially being English and making multiple setting changes all in English. Suddenly after applying settings at one point, boom, Asian characters. I had to force it to English (from Auto) and then it was ok again using the top right drop-down.
*New IOT network feature was enabled by default. Had to disable it. Guest was disabled though by default.
*Wired speeds are fine (900+mbps). Wireless is around 650/700mbps on an iPhone 13. I was seeing these speeds before the update. So yeah, that could have gone better. I'll let things bake to see how it goes.

Well - Anyone else having issues with the satellites connected with wire jumps to the 2.4ghz wireless as connection type?
I have Router wired to a RBS750 that has another RBS750 hooked up to it.
So RBR750 - wire - RBS750 - Wireless - RBS750.
My wired RBS750 jumps between Wired and 2.4ghz and I keep loosing my wireless connection with my Wireless RBS750. Of course it could be the network cable but this has worked with the old firmware flawlessly except the handover between Router and satellite.I seem to be at the 172.xxx.xxx.xxx-network. Not picked by me as far as I remember but I do not care.
What can I do?- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router? What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR📡 and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected. What CAT# cable is being used between the RBR and RBS?
Does swapping RBS with each other show same issue?

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update? - DONE
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence: DONE
Turn off and unplug modem. DONE
Turn off router and computers. DONE
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect. DONE
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect. DONE
Turn on computers and rest of network. DONEDoes this happen with the RBS turned OFF? - DONE and I have actually taken away on off the satellites. Seems to work better. Unfortunately.
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices? No, but I have no wired connections on my last satellite.
What channel configurations are currently set on the router? - All by default. What is the size of your home? Sq Ft? - 168 + a separate cottage of 26 square meters. But the distance is not a problem.
What is the distance between the router and - Wired first then 7 meters or so, in separate houses between satellites.satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS. - See above. 7 meters or so since I moved the Satellite a month ago. Has worked flawlessly.
️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected. - The satellites was connected between two houses or that I call cottage. So two outer walls(Swedish style = well insulated 30cm+ per wall), one with clay and one in wood.
What CAT# cable is being used between the RBR and RBS? CAT 6.
Does swapping RBS with each other show same issue? - I killed one of the satellites instead. I now do not have a satellite in my cottage. Should not be needed but as the satellite that was wired in the house jumped in its connection type between wireless and wired. Bought a new cat6-cable yesterday also.
- Dreas89AspirantStill no luck. Today my wife and one of the kids had major issues with the wireless after a blackout.
I had issues with the wireless I realize during a meeting. The Satellite is wired but has stopped showing as wired in the Network app.
This update really made my Orbi crap.- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
How is the RBS connected to the RBR? You say wired? Is it to the back of the RBR or is there any LAN switch in the middle? If there is a LAN switch, brand and model please of this switch.
Turn OFF the RBS and test to see if wifi problems are still seen.
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since v.21 was loaded?
What is the distance between the one RBS and the RBR? In Feet please.

That's quite a significant leap from V4.6.14.3. It hasn't appeared on my admin page yet, but honestly, I prefer to avoid beta testing at my age.

You don't have to update. Up to you.
Already been beta tested.
Good Luck.
- TheobuckApprenticeDifferent subject but for an echo device I need to have separate SSIDS for 2.4 and 5.ghz bands. Is there a knowledge base article?

My Echo Dots function perfectly well with the Orbi having the same SSID on both 2.4 and 5G bands.
Can you please point to something from Amazon for this specific Echo product that requires separate SSIDs?
- TheobuckApprenticeSooooorrrrrrYYY CHESE.😳
I have an echo sub that does not recognize the single SSID. Amazon Tech support recommend two SSIDs.
But I just used the IOT SSID it was the only I saw and preferred, so never mind.

Hello
uodated my rb750 and satellites all fine
however
i had a guest network, that was on security none
I have a few older devices connected to that
after the update I see the guest network security setting is on wpa2 personal with a password
I can change it back to none, which is an option , however when I try to save I get an error and need to go into the WiFi settings …..
any solution other then downgrading ?

Just as a side note, I've adopted a method where I allocate a separate SSID and password to the Guest Network. This is where I connect all of my IoT devices, including my Echo. It appears to offer an extra layer of security compared to solely depending on the IoT feature.

I am new to the mesh system and I tried to update the firmware, but I screw up and did not update the satellites first. Now the satellites will not connect to the router. Is there any corrective action that I can take to fix the problem?
- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Downgrade the RBR back to what you had loaded on it. I presume the last v4 version of FW? Go back to that.

So - Seems like the problem is solved FURRYe38 .
Is it a bug or should it work like this?
I moved my satellite to a place where my phone has a stable connection with the RBR and now it does not drop. I connected my other satellite aswell(wireless).
Should not the LAN connection from RBR and the first RBS be enough?
So my summary is that the RBR and RBS always need wireless connection even though you have a lan cable connected. And that this latest update made the RBR worse in its range/more sensitive.
I saw some stutters today like the RBR/RBS does some checks now and then to see that the connection is there. Inactivated the summer time and auto update feature and will test more next week.
I hope Netgear comes with a fix allowing the RBS being just outside/inside the range when connected to cable and not just for back haul. Even though my first satellite has cable the connection type is specified as Wireless. I saw this earlier aswell, the satellite jumps between wireless and cable. Also a bug or could that be the issue - That the satellite randomly swaps connection type and that is what I see when I have stutters etc? A setting for putting the satellite in "ethernet" only would solve my issue as the wired satellite seems to prefer wireless even though it before the move was a horrible connection.- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
The RBS work either on wireless sync or ethernet sync, not both. So if you have the RBS ethernet connected, cabling, switching in between the RBR and RBS is good, the RBS will connect via ethernet. If cabling, jacks, switches are bad in anyway, would and could cause RBS to falter and switch from wired to wireless and cause problems. Also placement, distances between each other and size of home regardless of wireless or ethernet connections are a factor in how RBS work.
- TheobuckApprenticeI have two back hauls wired RBSs. I have my RBR in the master bathroom closet close to the ISP's Fiber Household Terminal.
I have had no degradation in the quality of connections since the upgrade. It has been much better since the recent FW update.
My system uptime is 34 days, and change.
The only issue I had since the update was a pairing issue with echo devices, but per their advice, I chose to put a few of them on my IoT network 5Gh only, which fixes the problem. That was more of a design problem with Amazon GoFigure. The workaround, per their ‘Tech’ support, is to split the 2.4 and 5Gh SSIDs. IoT Wi-Fi seemed my only choice. I could be wrong.
- Voishnek66AspirantUnfortunately, I loaded the new FW on the router first. I tried to manually load the new FW on the satellites but it kept failing..check the file and try again. I've rebooted the router and satellites to no avail. Do I have to perform a factory reset?
- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Can you downgrand the RBR back to prior v4 version then let the RBS sync then try to manually update them FIRST with the RBS v7 FW file? Be sure your using the RBS FW file to update the RBS. Be sure to unpack the .zip file to revieal the .CHK file to load thru the RBS web page. Do not try to open this file.
