  • Was having a problem with my RBR850 rebooting every few days.  Was hoping that this firmware would fix that problem.  Now it reboots twice a day.  Very frustrating.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update? What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Given your email last night, I did shut down the router for about 5 minutes.  First thing this morning, it restarted spontaneously again.  I have 24. GHz set to 10 and 5 GHz set to channel 48.  We're in a suburban area, so not a ton of noisy neighbors.  The RBR850 is connected directly to the ONT (Verizon FIOS) via ethernet - not sure why this would cause a reboot.  In addition to the RBR850, I have two RBS850's to extend the signal to upstairs and in the basement - RBR850 is on the main floor.  I also have AX disabled and 20/40 MHz coexistence turned off as I've heard before those cab causes issues.  The only "non-vanilla" thing about my environment is I do have about 60 devices attached with quite a few IOT devices - security cameras, etc.  All with mainstream providers nest/Google, Hue, etc.

  • The past 2 weeks - my router has randomly started rebooting. It would turn off and sometimes take 10 or 15 minutes to turn back on. It's been very frustrating. This was a 100% router based issue not anything to do with our Fios as we connect directly to the ONT and don't have a gateway or anything inbetween. The literal router was shutting down. I'm hoping that this update fixes it as it just became available and we just applied the update.

Be sure to power OFF the ONT and RBR and RBS for 1 minute or longer after applying the FW update.

If problems continue a factory reset and setup from scratch will be needed.

it may not be a FW issue on your system, rather a hardware issue. Not everything if FW related.

Reporting back after some days of testing with my RBR850+RBS850 with Ethernet backhaul, running in AP mode with 1Gbit/sync fiber over Fritz!Box Modem.
Generally I can say the switching to pink every 24h is history, the whole network is way more stable now.

Nonetheless, I’m facing random complete WiFi dropouts, causing the entire network to be inaccessible for some minutes, even wired devices. Sometimes only restarting the Satellite is helping.
If the satellite is off, everything is perfectly stable, so I have to assume it’s the combo of AP and satellite that make the WiFi break down.

20/40Ghz coexistence is off, but that didn’t solve much. The logs are absolutely useless and don’t contain anything.

I would need help to get this fixed 😞
  • For Orbi RBR850, does anyone know if this update fixes the no devices connecting to the satellites issue?

Prior to the update, my Orbi app showed no devices connected to any of my satellites, although all of my devices worked and so they clearly were connected.  After the update the app showed the devices as connected.

  • I'm still having the random drops with RBR850 and 2 RBS850s. None of the firmware updates have solved this issue after 5+ months. I'm ready to give up on Orbi.

Please start a new thread so we can begin to troubleshoot your issue and see if we can narrow down where it maybe coming from.

Im putting mine back online to see if I can help with this as well.

  • Updated thereafter the satellites refused to connect. Did a factory reset, satellites connected fine. Now satellites refuse to connect again.

The weird thing is, all my personal devices connect just fine to the router, even from the other end of the house.

I only received these devices 2 days ago as replacements for some ASUS gear that had firmware issues for 2 years.

I'm now wondering if I've made a huge mistake.

Update: Got on to support who walked me through resetting, and re-adding the satellites. The process wasn't documented anywhere I could find but it worked! Let's see how it goes!

  • Anyone have issues with all devices randomly losing connection after update? Since updating, we’ll lose all internet, WiFi and hardwired to router but no issues coming in from isp or at the modem (plugging in directly with laptop).

Held off on updating until last night, full reboot after firmware update and no issues on previous version.

      Not with mine.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
      https://kb.netgear.com/31029/Where-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite 📡

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Traffic Meter. Turn off AX for 2.4
      CTS set to 2347

Thanks for the quick follow up.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
        Netgear CM700

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
        Approximately 4,000 sq ft

What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
RBS is 28’ from RBR. One floor up on opposite side of house. Blue connection prior to firmware update (still blue now) and no issue with RBS. Problem seems to be full outage as devices on both RBR and RBS lose connection.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz.
Running this on previous firmware and current firmware.

Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Will test this and report back after giving it a day.

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Neighbors on both sides separated by approximately 2 acres each. No apparent issues previously.

Try disabling the following and see:
        Armor, Circle, Traffic Meter.
Turned off Traffic Meter after second drop for testing purposes, currently still off. Armor meter off. Will turn off Parental Controls and report after a day.

Turn off AX for 2.4 CTS set to 2347.
        Will try and report back.

        Thanks again
  • Updated the fw for my rbs850 and rbr850. I am still having problem with the satellite loosing connection to the router. The back haul is connected tfhrough LAN. I’m working from home 100% and my laptop is connected to the satellite and every time there is a short glitch my VPN drops between my laptop and my company server. The best solution yet is to turn of the satellite. Until this is fixed. I’m not happy with this product

Is the RBS directly connected to the RBR or is there a LAN switch in between?

What CAT# LAN cable are you using inbetween the RBR and RBS?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

Also try turning down the power output of the RBRs wifi radios from 100% to 50% and see if this changes anything. Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set CTS to 2347. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
