Orbi AXE11000 RBRE960 firmware issue with Synology NAS
I just noticed that my ORBI 960 is no longer allowing access to my Synology DS 220 NAS. It seems like this behavior started around February or March of 25. I have automation on my PC that backs up multiple users to the NAS and reports on the status of these events. I noticed today that the backups have been failing since April. These have been working flawlessly since I installed the ORBI in August of 23. I think this may have something to do with the latest firmware upgrade for the ORBI.
My Network looks like this:
ATT Modem BGW320-500 which is feeding the ORBI. The NAS device was connected directly into one of the ethernet ports on the ORBI. I have a GS305 switch connected to another port on the ORBI. This switch feeds yet another GS205 switch. When I try and ping the NAS device I get some strange returns:
Pinging "Ip Address of NAS"
Reply from "IP address of PC": Destination host unreachable
..
..
..
Ping statistics for "Ip address of NAS"
Packets sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0
I tried moving the ethernet connection from the back of the ORBI to the GS305 switch and received the same ping messages
I swapped the GS305 with the GS205 and there was no difference.
I then moved the NAS drive from my network room and connected it to the GS205 switch in my office and the results of the ping are
Reply from "Ip Address of NAS" bytes =32 time < 1ms TTL=64
I am now able to access the NAS drive as before with the NAS drive applications.
Although this is a workable solution, I would rather have the NAS in the network room with the other network gear and under UPS protection.
I don't have time to go through downgrading the Firmware to try this out and was hoping someone could provide some insight into this issue.
Thanks in advance

What FW is currently loaded?
What FW updated around Feb or March of this year?
Where is the NAS connected? Behind the RBR or had it been connected behind the RBS?
Where is this office located? Is the RBS in the office or is the RBR in the office?
Do you have IPv6 enabled on the RBR?
Is the RBR in AP or Router mode?
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

Current FW is 7.2.15_5.1.16
I looked on the download site and there was a Release not posted in Feb so I assumed that went with a FW update.
NAS is connected directly to the RBR
Office is located in another room in my house cat 6 connection to Orbi via GS205 and GS305
No RBS in this network only RBR
IPV6 looks to be disabled
RBR is in router mode
I have not done a factory reset as I have 50 address reservations
So moving the NAS from one location to another makes it work, this would not be a Orbi or FW issue, rather something cabling or switch issue.
Are you using the ISP modems DMZ or IP Pass thru for the RBR thats in router mode? The ISP modem has a built in router already.

Moving the NAS behind the second switch makes it work. That work around makes no sense to me. Prior to this the NAS has been connected directly to ORBI and it was working until the March timeframe now it doesn't. I stumbled upon the workaround when I moved the NAS into my office just so I could physically deal with it (ie hard reset since it was not accessible via network)
Orbi -> GS305 -> GS205 -> NAS this works
Orbi -> NAS (NAS is not accessible)
This is why I think its and ORBI issue
Where is the PC in the mix? Where is it connecting too? One of the switches or is it also behind the RBR?
Is PC wireless or ethernet connected to the system?

I have tried the PC connected wirelessly to the Orbi or connected to the GS205. When the NAS was connected directly to the ORBI it is unreachable. When its connected to the GS205 it works.
How about the PC ethernet connected directly to the back of the RBR along with the NAS?
So Wireless PC connected to RBR and NAS ethernet connected to RBR, NAS access fails?

yes, you are correct. I will see if I have a long enough ethernet cable to connect directly to the Orbi from the PC.

What FW Version had the system been on prior to FEB/March?

I have shut everything down and restarted one device at a time multiple times. I thought it might be something that got hung up but that does not appear to be the case.
