RBK852 on different subnet from router (orbi 192.168.1.1 router 192.168.200.1)

When I installed the Orbi wifi it configured automatically.  My main router ip gateway is 192.168.200.1 and the Orbi configured at 192.168.1.1

I turned off wifi on the main router that is connected to the internet but now i cannot access devices that are connect to the main router ethernet port because if the different subnet.

My question is, what is the best way to configure the network or routers so that devices connected to the main router can see and talk to devices connected to the Orbi and vice versa.

Thank you.

  • What is the mfr and model # of this modem? Any chance this modem can be bridged?

    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Try option#1 if possible. Check with your ISP about this...If not you can go for option#2 or #.

  • Your running a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. I would either remove the upstream router and use the RBR as your main host router and connect everything there, or use the up stream router and configure the RBR for AP mode so anything connected to the Orbi system will be on the same subnet...

      Hi, thanks for the reply.

I'm not a network expert.  Are there any step by step instructions from configuring the RBR for AP mode?
The upstream router is actually a modem/router/wifi from my internet provider Rogers.  I disabled the wifi from the modem router.

It seems the real problem here is that you should have all your devices connected to the Orbi (wired as well as wireless).  Your Orbi became the router and everything should connect to it.
