RBR/S 850 backhaul status out of sync and incapable of updating firmware via IP address

Hello,

Recently a power out has caused me to examine our wi-fi setup with our Orbi RBR850 router and RBS850 satellites. While fixing a simple disconnection I noticed that the 'backhaul status' for our satellites is "out of sync". In addition while examining the firmware version I have not been able to find a way to update the satellies firmware. On oriblogin.net, the table spaces are blank for the satellies Model Name and Current Firmware Version. It reports that the status of the devices is "Service Unreachable". When I attempt a manual update a webpage open with the satellites IP addresses, but this page fails to load

I have tried:

  • Factory resetting the satellites
  • Moving the satellites into the same room as the router
  • Connecting via an ethernet cable to the satellites
  • Turning the satellites off and on
  • Turning the router off and on
  • Leaving one satellite off and doing all of the above with one satellite at a time
  • Trying to access the satellites using the default IP address instead of the one provided by the router
  • Generating a new backhaul password and then resyncing
  • Updating the router's firmware (successfully updated router's firmware but that is all)

I have not yet tried to factory reset the router, but that is the only thing I can think of doing and I don't particularly want to do that if not necessary. None of the above have resulted in a proper solution.

The most success I have had is that one of the satellites has momentarily reported that the backhaul status was 'okay' but this was only for a few seconds after resyncing. For brevity, the satellites do appear to be working in some regard. The wi-fi network is extended and the internet can be accessed via this extension, despite the issues I'm seeing.

Are my devices defective? Otherwise how can I fix the backhaul status problem and/or update their firmware when I can't access them?

  • If you updated the FW on the RBR and not the RBS, you'll need to downgrade the RBR back to what you had on it before. Then do a full on Factory reset on the RBR AND RBS and attempt to get them to reconnect.

This is recommended factory reset and setup from scratch process that should help:

I recommend not updating to v.31 FW as it's got known issues. v.21 is most stable and works best. RBS need to be updated first before the RBR is updated.

How can I downgrade the RBR. Is it as simply as 'updating' to an older firmware?

If so, I still don't know which to pick. It won't tell me what firmware version is on the satellites.

So uhh, new development. Apparently I am physically incapable of wanting to downgrade my firmware.

Additionally, I did the factory reset. It didn't appear to help anything. This is the problem I encountered just trying to downgrade to the oldest firmware available.

  • Try this:
