RBS750 Daisy-Chain Slow Speed

Hello there

I have a 300Mbps fiber and I have the following Setup

RBS750 (Main Router) -> RBS750 (1st Satellite) -> RBS750 (2nd Satellite (daisy-chained to 1st Stellite).

The Backhaul Status is all reads "Good"

In the main Router and the 1st satellite, speedtest gives me 300Mbps as expected.

But when I connect to the 2nd Satellite, then the speed is between 150-200Mbps

I have tried to turn off the 1st Satellite to see if the 2nd one can connect directly to the rooter, but then I get a "ppor" Backhaul Status and speed is like 5Mbps.

So any idea what I can tweet to make the speed in the 2nd Satellite increase? Or is a drop of 33% logical in such a setup?

  • You still loose speed with distance over 5ghz. It doesn't broadcast as far or through as much materials as 2.4ghz but is significantly faster.

but you're still starting at 300mbps so its drop off starts there.

  • A wired backhaul would be about it.

You're going to lose speeds with a daisy chained setup.

it also implies that you have a decent amount of distance between the devices which causes losses because of the distance/interference.

Wired would not be a possiblity.

The daisy-chained satellites are more or less 10meters far. So I think distance is ok.

  • Opening up again this one.

I got recently a speed upgrade from my ISP.

So now all Orbi's Satellites can reach 550Mbps download, except from the daisy-chained one is stuck at 200-210 max. This is of course connected to a Satellite that can easily serve 550Mbps when speed-testing.

In my previous contract with 300Mbps, I though 200Mbps was ok, as believed that in daisy/chain mode 30% speed is maybe lost.

    But what about now?

Backhaul Status in ALL Satellites is GOOD.

Is there something I can do about it? Is there maybe something that limits the Daisy-Chained speed to 200?

      Hello skous,

      Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!

I understand that you are not getting the desired network speeds from your daisy-chained satellite. If your router and satellites are on the same firmware, then the location or distance from your satellite could be an issue. To troubleshoot please replace your daisy-chained satellite with one that is connected to the router. If you get the same network speeds from that router, then you can rest assured that the location is the issue and not the satellite. In this case, the satellite will either have to be moved closer to the main satellite or a wired bach-haul setup may be required.

      Best,

      Kevin

Well distance should not be a problem, as all satellites reach 500mbps. And the distance between the daisy chained one to the satellite seems to be ok.

I will try by swapping some satellites to see if there is a hardware problem.

Regarding the ethernet backhaul, would this work between the daisy-chained and the satellite, or is it only working if the wired connection is to the main device?
