Re: RBR850 Dropping Internet Connectivity

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone else is still getting these issues.

I am struggling to be honest.  My dropouts are completely random.  Like two or three in one day and none for 3 months.

I have RBR850+2 Satellites. NTD to Router is Cat 5e. Router to satellites is Cat 5 e (Ethernet backhaul).  on a 1 gig plan and it runs like a dream.  Literally getting 7/800+on my mobile in the backyard..... UNTIL random dropout.

So I can reach my WiFi and all our devices can too.  Just no internet.  Orbi app says no internet.

I then turn off wifi on the mobile and open the My Aussie App. If I do a "Check my connection" test it says my connection is down.  If I call them they say its up.  They insist nothing is wrong.  If I kick my connection (from their app) or reboot my NTD then presto everything is working again.

This just happened again today whilst on a work call - very annoying...

So my question is do I roll back to version 21 as per the posts here (currently on V7.2.6.31_5.0.24) or has this issue been fixed and it is something else?  Seriously ready to scrap it all.  My RBK50 died finally (best thing I ever had) and swapped it over to a crappy orbi then up to the 850 only to get these probs.  Only issue is if I did change I have to set up all the home automations, googles, lights cameras alarms - AAArgh!  Just want stable...

Even more embarrassing is that I am going to get a geek to you dude just to check everything for me - sigh

Thanks

I would update the RBS first to v.15 then RBR lastly. v.31 was known to have problems

I've had this version on my 854 series running well and RBS are now ethernet connected. 20+ days of good up time.

I loaded my system, power cycled the system OFF and back ON. Then factory reset and setup from scratch using a wired PC and web browser:

Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

WiFi Channels being used on mine is 1 and 40.

Thank you for the advice! Thank you too for the easily digestible response.  I am technical enough to get myself in big trouble but not technical enough to get myself out again.  my last attempt at a manual update resulted in my RBK50 turning itself into a brick and never talking to me again...

I have also had a response from the Support team that literally had me pulling my hair out.

Upgrade to the latest firmware they said which they said was 7.2..7.15.

Interesting that when I open the orbi app and actually hit the go update button it says no new firmware available.

however if I go to the support pages, search my model and then go to downloads goes what?  Several newer versions.

Once you open the zip file there is a mismatch of 750,800,850 models in the names, instructions and links that makes you squeamish.

Not to mention the random change your MTU and update DNS to 8.8.8.8...

Anyhow, I finally relented and manually updated all FW, unchecked the auto update (but have not yet had the courage to factory reset).  Call me chicken if you like but going around and re-adding 20+devices is something that I would rather put off (at least until the weekend).

Here is hoping that I will not see another drop!

      thank you again

      oof to answer your questions.

I got a data cabler in to run the conduits and cables through the wall so I may have Cat 6 - just not sure...

My house is huge..... old technicolour gateway modem/router could cover almost nothing hence the ORBI.

I have used a little longer cable on one as I had to exit study, traverse garage, traverse attic, traverse top floor into roof, chase that across the house, down an aircon duct, into another roof and then down the wall and into the home theatre room...... quite a journey involving one knee through the ceiling (thank you to my brother) and a few bruises along with many a lifter tile not to mention the purchase of some quality yellow tongue ...sigh...

I live quite some way out of town so we had no wifi in the bedrooms, or at the TV and the home theatre is separated from the router by a bathroom and a laundry....  Now tv is hardwired all the way back and interestingly you can pick up my wifi in the next street..... love that.
