Connecting a Lutron hub to an Orbi Satellite

Maybe someone has run into this configuration?

We have a Lutron (home lighting system) which we will install in a utility building, away from our house.  The Lutron Caseta hub (which all the light switches connect to) needs to connect via an ethernet cable to the router (as the system is designed for a house).  We have an Orbi 970 mesh system in our house, and plan to extend it to the utility building.  The Orbi 970 router sits in our living room in our house, connected to our ATT modem.  We will have a satellite in the utility building.  That satellite has ethernet ports on the back of it.  I am hoping we can install the Caseta hub via ethernet into the ethernet connection on the back of the satellite to give it internet access.  In theory this should work great.

Has anyone done this before with a Lutron home lighting system?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Technically yes, that will work if you connect the hub via ethernet behind the RBS. You can connect any ethernet device behind the RBS.

How far away is the utility building from the home?

Thanks. The utility building is about 130 - 150 ft away.  I will be daisy-chaining the RBS'.

That maybe to far way in between one RBS and another. I guess give it a try and if it fails, you'll need to look to something else to get signal out to the remote location. Point 2 Point wireless system maybe needed to get something out that far.

  • Yes, I have a Lutron hub connected by ethernet to one of my Orbi 870 satellites.  I previously owned an Orbi 960 and it connected to a satellite the same way.

Essentially, your Lutron wired hub can connected to any mesh system router/satellite with ethernet ports.  The mesh satellites can connect any non-wireless devices (e.g., I also connect my Arlo hub and Phillips Hue bridge).
