Orbi 770 has become unusable with my Fios system. Constant drops of internet

I have not changed anything from what was a stable set up last week. To best of my knowledge fios router is still in passive mode - with Orbi doing all the worker, but it frequently drops internet. Loses connection multiple times per day (red from router back to internet). Need help - and open to any suggestions.  Old 500 series was way more stable for us.

  • What is the symptom that alerted you to the problem?

(i.e. caused you to look at the Orbi 'app')

Are you able to look at the Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab, and click on Show Statistics.  How does it describe the WAN port?

Does the connection ever restore by itself?

Can you give us more details on what model that was?

Do you mean you set up the fios router in IP passthrough? Or something else?

This could be cabling.  The 770 has a 2.5 gpbs WAN port, and the current Fios routers have 2.5 gbps LAN.  If the cable between them can't reliably handle that speed, you will see connection drops.

The patch cable between them should be at least CAT 6.  If there is a lot of other cabling nearby, then shielded Cat 6 (STP) might help.

If you have a small gigabit switch handy, you could also put that in between the Fios router and the Orbi.  If that resolves the problem, then that points to the cabling not being able to carry 2.5 gbps reliably.

Keep in mind this also applies to the cabling between the fios router and the ONT.

Thanks spent an hour with Fios... they had me "hard reset" and confirmed that all radios on Fios Router were off....  Still seeing drops - ordered cat8 cord for tomorrow, will see if that helps.
This is a NEW feature on my orbi system.  Constant disconnecting

FWIW, I also use Verizon Fios, together with my Orbi 870 system.  I am not seeing the connection drops that you are seeing.

Both devices are routing (192.168.1.x for the Fios Lan, 10.0.0.x for the Orbi LAN) - so I am using a double-NAT configuration.  WiFi on the Verizon router is turned off, and IPv6 is disabled in the Orbi.  WiFi is provided to their set top boxes using an older Orbi (RBK50) that is in AP mode and connected to the Fios LAN.

If you are only using their internet service, you could try connecting the 770 router directly to the ONT.
