Orbi 770 keeps disconnecting

I got an Orbi 770 with two satellites for 800$+ 8 months back (RBE770/RBE771). I got it imagining that this is a high end product and will give me stable Wi-Fi and connectivity for my whole home. It was all good for the first two and a half months, then the issues started popping. All my devices started seeing random Wi-Fi disconnects multiple times a day. I suspect it happens during the transition point between my router and satellite but I'm not sure. My phone for example keeps disconnecting and reconnecting often even when I'm in the same place on my bed. I followed all the troubleshooting steps that I can find online and in Reddit and simply am unable to fix the issue. The Orbi app says that I cannot reach out to customer care or create an online support case for this issue. I feel like Netgear is holding me hostage after taking 850 plus dollars. So, out of desperation to make my router work and since I cannot afford another router I am reaching out to this community for help fix my Wi-Fi.

Below are all the troubleshooting steps that I've tried but I still have random Wi-Fi disconnects:

  1. Use Wi-Fi backhaul to connect all three router+2sats. (Tried this to eliminate any issues with ethernet cable)
  2. Use ethernet cables , my house had it wired to connect all three devices. ( Tried this to eliminate any issues with Wi-Fi connectivity between devices)
  3. Confirm that the three devices are at least 40 ft apart from each other.(General recommendation I see online)
  4. Use only two devices, one router one satellite. ( Just another test in case my router and satellites are close to each other, Made sure they are at least 50 plus feet apart.
  5. Use multiple phones ( to double check it's not my phone specific issue)
  6. Restarted my phone, laptop, router, satellites multiple times.
  7. Factory reset my Orbi router and satellites
  8. Update to latest firmware
  9. Disable IPv6
  10. Revert firmware version to v10.5.18.3 (some reddit threads mention this version to be functional and fixing issues)
  11. Confirmed there is no VPN on phone.
  12. Disabled Mac randomizer on phone and devices

All about did not fix my issue and I don't have hope on being able to reach Netgear for help. Can someone from this community help me in this issue?

Is it in hardware issue or some bad software update?

What is the size of the home in sq feet?

What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet is starting distance or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?

What channel configurations are currently set on the router?

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Did you perform the factory reset and setup from scratch after newest FW had been loaded?

I use an excellent analyzer on my Mac, that’s also free. Its name is Wi-Fi analyzer. At some point, I wrote a detailed document that was pinned on the old forums, on a whole process of how to properly place mesh satellites, whether they will be wireless or wired. With the new forum software, I can’t find them at the moment.

As far as distance between mesh elements goes, that is mostly a guide (intended to prevent interference).  In some environments you might need to put them closer.  Central chimneys, concrete walls, large appliances, ducts and pipes can all block wifi.

I'd start by installing a wifi analyzer on your phone. You are looking to get about -65 dbm (or better) for your client connections throughout your home but not getting more than -30 dbm from two mesh elements in any location.  Generally, competing wifi signals stronger than -30 dbm are strong enough to create interference.

Turn off both satellites, and use the analyzer to measure your signal strength to the router.  Ideally you are looking for places where the 5 ghz signal strength drops to about -50 to -60 dbm.   Those locations would be good for the satellites.  You can then put a satellite in one of those spots and repeat the process.

After the backhaul syncs, you can check that backhaul status is reported as "Good" in the web interface.

There are several good free analyzers available for android.  Not much for iphones - the only one I know of is the Apple Airport Utility, which does have a wifi scanning option.  No graphical output, and it does insist on looking for apple airport routers, but it will do the job.
