Orbi 970 constantly drops wifi to devices

I purchased a new Orbi 970 router + 1 satellite for 6 weeks ago.  I experience constant dropped connections to my connected devices including Echos, FireTV's iPads etc.

My Configuration:

  • 970 Router with wired backhaul to single satellite
  • Firmware V9.12.3.3_1.2.20
  • Main SSID allows 5GHz and 2.4GHz
  • IoT SSID 2.4GHz only
  • Roughly 75 connected devices (Echos, IP Cameras, TV's, FireTV's phones and tablets, etc)
  • I have 15 DHCP reservations setup for the IP cameras (Same as my previous Orbi)

Drops happen on both the main and IoT connections.  Previously had the Orbi 850 with the same router+satellite configuration in the same physical locations without issues.

I have seen older messages where this was an issue and it looks like firmware resolved, but im on the latest firmware.  Saw another where heat was an issue, but the devices do not seem hot to the touch.  I will be opening a support case today as well.  I want to love it, but it is disappointing as this is a $1700 top of the line wifi 7 solution, yet has more issues than my old units.

  • Yes that would be a good test to try and observe.

The one at 70 feet though, may need to move that in closer to the RBR.

Also have you opened a support ticket regarding this with NG yet?

  • What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

How is the RBS ethernet connected to the RBR? Directy to the back of the RBR? Or is there any kind of patch panel, wall jack or LAN switch in between them?

Which LAN ports are you using on the RBR and RBS to ethernet connect them to each other?

What CAT# LAN cable are you using between the RBR and RBS? CAT6A STP is recommended.

What channels did you change to on the RBR?

Let us know if this still happens with the RBS turned OFF as a quick test.

Possible some odd issues with patch panels or wall out lets. 10Gb can be more sensitive than 1Gb LAN ports.

How many devices are connected at the RBS and RBR?
