Orbi 970 Horrible performance in AP Mode
Hello. I purchased the Orbi 970 Kit. I also have a asus router BT 98 Pro. The router of the orbi I configured to act in AP Mode. I have connected the lan 1 (not the 10 G of the orbit to the lan 3 of my asus router. From there I positioned a satellite with just as itself via Wifi only no lan no nothing in a middle point and the other Satellite In the bedroom where I have a TV and the lan of the TV is connected to the lan port 1 (Not the 10G) of that second satellite to supply.the TV and simply is impossible, is slow I have disconnects, even to enter the GUI is pathetic when I watch streaming of movies or things like that all the time is buffering. I had in the past a RBR850 with 3 satellites and 1 router and it behaved better. Now I have 2 satellites, purchasing another satellite could solve the issue? This drops and freezes or buffering is due the poor connection the second satellite may have? I only want to use via with his lan cable of the second satellite not wifi for this purpose. What I need is in short words is simulate as if one super lager cable LAN is connected from my router ASUS to the TV but as is a long distance is the why use the network of the ORBI as is a way to send LAN in the satellites. Or what could he the problem? Even to test a wireless lan of the ORBI to connect it takes a long time or it doesn't connect. Then here at this step I don't know if I need to configure something, but the orbi GUI it hasn't many options and is clear I have channel for 2.4 to 11 and to 5 ghz to 40 and
WPA2-PSK + WPA3-Personal. Nothing else. Maybe the AP and the thing I want to connect via LAN is missing something? But about this as I said even trying to connect to wifi networks of the orbi is a nightmare, disconnects also total unstable.
That is why i though in our chase another satellite as I said the RBR850 had more performance, not great, but worked but I had 3 satellites instead of 2.
What could be the issue? Or how can I solve this if is needed to congruent something else? About my asus router is not the problem it detects the orbi router in a IP all fine and the ASUS router its Wifi are perfect stable if I connect to them, no delays no nothing, I have there more devices and zero problems but when I want to migrate and use the LAN or Wifi of the Orbi 970 is impossible, now is a decorative item in my desks the Orbi 970.
So when configuring static IP addresses ON devices, the IP address gets set ON the device, ie. RBR. Also this IP address needs to reside out side of the host router default IP address pool range, not with in it. And do not set a IP address reservation for same IP address on the host router. Static IP addresses only are set ON the devcie and not the host router. This is normal and standard networking practice.
This was noted in the linked configuration article about AP mode.
Distances between RBR and RBS should be 30 feet starting, nothing less.
Make sure the RBRs WAN port is used to connect to the main host routers LAN port for AP mode.
Since the Orbi system is on the same subnet as the host router, you can connect some other devices to the main host router, this is acutally preferred for most of your devices. Then use the Orbi LAN ports as needed for maybe some additional remote connections in those areas. Should be noted that for any Ethernet connected RBS should you seek this connection, the RBS need to be ethernet connected behind the RBR, and not at the host router.

AP Mode + Orbi Mesh = crippled features
Orbi systems generally work best in Router mode, where the dedicated 6GHz/5GHz backhaul is properly managed. In AP mode, you lose a lot of the “mesh intelligence” — the satellites may be falling back to weak WiFi backhaul instead of using the optimal band. That explains the buffering, disconnects, and why the GUI is sluggish. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
This is in the wrong forum area - you posted it in the ReadyNAS section, not the section for Orbi. I will move it for you.
Have you tried connecting the 970 router's WAN port to the Asus? Then see if you get good performance when you connect to the 970 wifi? Try a speedtest for example.
If you get poor performance, try turning off the ASUS wifi as a test, and see if that resolves the problem. You might be getting wifi interference, and it would to rule that out.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the ASUS router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the RBR unit and router. CAT6A STP is recommended. How is the RBR configured for AP mode? Dynamic or Static configuration? Static configuration would be suggested: Static IP Address Configuration for AP Mode | NETGEAR Communities
What I use with my 970 series and haven't had a problem.
Does the 970 system work if connected directly to the ISP modem/ONT while in router mode with the RBR?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Hello. I have the Kit Orbi 970 with extra satellite, 1 router and 3 satellites total. I'm using in AP mode with my router ASUS. My configurations is:
router ASUS 10G LAN Output ----> Orbi Router WAN Input, in this Orbi router I'm using all the LAN ports to connect other devices and all ports are occupied.
This is my configuration:
ASUS Router (10G LAN)

Orbi Router (AP Mode)
├─ LAN1 → Device
├─ LAN2 → Device
├─ LAN3 → Device
└─ LAN4 → Device

(Wireless Backhaul to Satellites)├─ Orbi Satellite 1
├─ Orbi Satellite 2
└─ Orbi Satellite 3 (LAN 2.5G → Sony TV wired)The question is having in the Orbi Router all lan ports occupied, this can affect in some performance to the Satellite 3 that has the Sony TV or Wifi networks created by same Orbi router?
I'm evaluating to see if this is a proper way to connect because if by any reason is not correct and may affect to occupy LAN ports of Orbi while I use its Wifi networks and one Satellite uses a Lan port to TV, then if this is not proper I can move some devices connected to the Orbi and send to the ASUS router. I don't know if there ara lags due the AP Mode as use all network Lan ports in router and 1 satellite Lan plus Wifi I don't know if to long term will create a mess or conflicts.
Thank you

*The modem is Spectrum's Model EU2251. Photo is attached. In 2 months I will change for Venus Fiber 2Gb but for now this one.
*The Firmware in the Orbi 970 router RBE 971 is V9.13.1.2.
*I use a same way of static. In the ASUS Router I entered an ip 192.168.1.xxx associated with the macid of the Orbi 970 router RBE 971. But I have Static IP with same IP i have assigned always in the ASUS Router. Even if I didn't have Static IP Enabled in the Orbi Router, the ASUS router asks and does, but I have the same in both places. Even each Satellite I have the same way assigned one specific IP from my ASUS Router
*Home is 9800 Sqft around, but I have centered the section I want with the Orbi Kit and is ok, yes I have around 20-30 FT around Satellites.
*The routers are connected as my above described diagram. Just LAnbetween the routers not wireless.

Orbi Router (AP Mode)
The Satellites are Wireless the 3, just one Satellite I'm using one of its ports LAN Output wires to a TV. But all satellites are Wireless connected to the their Orbi router. That is why I ask if having one output LAN in one satellite and having in the router Orbi all ports LAN occupied for devices can make a mess in future. Now runs fine but I don't know if this is the proper configuration.
The question is that having all ports connected to other devices (wired) in the Orbi Router in AP mode should not affect correct in performance or lags. I ask because I know that Orbi in router is a beauty but in AP mode I want to check if my configuration can have lags or problems in the future. Really is not a problem now, is just a question to think my future configurations or move the devices from the LAN Ports of the Orbi Router and send to ASUS Router to remove stress to the Orbi Router, thing i don't think is the question but I ask just in case.
