Orbi 970 Wi-Fi 7 Ordered
Just placed my order for the 970 mesh routers—can’t wait to get them up and running! I've had a fantastic experience with the 850 WiFi 6 system so far—hands down the best wireless setup I’ve ever used.
For those who’ve already made the switch, any tips or best practices for migrating? Is it really as straightforward as configuring the new system with the same SSIDs and passwords, or are there any hidden gotchas I should watch out for?
What I do first, use the default SSID name during the intial setup on the new system. Get to the home screen and ensure the RBS are connected as well. Setup all other features you want, accept for the WIFI SSID name and PW. Leave this for last item to change. Once you have most of the system setup and mostly ready, then go in and change the SSID name and PW and channels on the new system. After you select APPLY for this change, give about 30 seconds, then power OFF the new system. Then proceed to where you put the new RBR at the location of the old RBR and follow the process of powering it on after you reboot or power cycle the ISP modem/ONT. Go from there.

I recommend setting up the incoming system offline prior to connecting it to the ISP service. You can set it up with a wired PC and web browser. Have RBS in same room or near the incoming RBR first. Get the system setup for same wifi SSID name and PW and channels. https://kb.netgear.com/22697/How-do-I-install-my-NETGEAR-router-using-the-router-web-interface
Once you have the RBR and RBS setup, power off the new RBS and RBR. Power OFF all the out going RBS. Place the incoming RBR near the out going RBR and power it ON. Power cycle or Reboot the ISP modem or ONT. Right after the reboot starts there, disconnect the out going RBR from the WAN Port and connect that cable to the incoming RBR from the ISP modem/ONT. After the ISP has rebooted and back to ready, power OFF the out going RBR. Your devices should automatically migrate and connect to the new RBR.
Go place the incoming RBS at there remote locations and power them ON.
Allow for about 10 minutes for the RBS to settle in.
I do this all the time when putting a different system on line to test.

Think it would be a good idea to have different SSID names up until the last minute so that my current devices don't try to jump to the new router before I am ready?

Apologies, I have one more question. download the latest firmware to my PC and flash that while I am setting it up?

Yes you can update FW manually if you wish after you get to the home screen on the RBR:

Mine currently has V9.12.3.3_1.2.20 and I see V9.13.1.2 is the latest in the download center.

My satellite is saying it is in Canada. Any idea how I change that? Also, does the connection from the router to satellite look good?

Whats the lay out of the home and where are the RBS located from the RBR? Distances should be 30 feet or more up to say 40-50.
Size of home in sq ft?
Might power OFF the system for 1 minute then back ON.
Possible once the system is setup and staged, and once you fully on line with the system, CAN should change to USA.

ahh, ok. They are only like 5ft apart for setup and no internet yet.

Ok, ya, keep it going and get the system online, once online should change.

All set up now. Noticed the aggregate link speed has doubled on my Wi-Fi 6 devices from 1201/1201 to 2402/2402 (Mbps), and speed tests are substantially faster which is great. I have a couple questions. One should I be able to see a 6Ghz wi-fi option on my router and be able to select channels? Two my region is still showing and locked on Canada. I have opened a ticket with Netgear support, but if you know how I can fix that I'm all ears.

It doesn't give you an option of changing 6ghz channels. Mine looks exactly the same (other than the canada issue)

Might try a power OFF of the orbi system, RBR and RBS. I'd even power OFF the ISP Modem/ONT for 1 minute then back ON, then power ON the RBR first, then RBS soon after, give about 10 minutes for the system to settle in. Check the location.
Keep in contact with NG support.

Is it both satellites showing canada? And only the satellites? If so, I'd try factory resetting them and then hardwire them into the main router to sync them. See if syncing them hardwired pushes over the correct region (if the route is set for NA)

I only have one satellite 1700 sq/ft single floor ranch. But the RBR and RBS both show Canada. I'll try shutting down as FURRY suggested.

Just to confirm, you are located in the USA?
- wRiNkLe_sTiCkApprentice
yes, I am
- wRiNkLe_sTiCkApprentice
OK, so the full shutdown corrected the region. Thanks for the suggestion. I had done that once already, but I guess it needed to be done twice. Can either of you comment on whether this should be blue
?

Good to see. Glad it changed over.
2.4Ghz is showing that you don't have any devices connected. So the 2.4Ghz maybe idle or just waiting for a connection. Also since this is a WiFi 7 system and also supports MLO, Multi Link Operation, The wireless backhaul connection is combined to use 5 and 6ghz at the same time. Thus MLO, If the signal wasn't good, then the RBS backhaul connection could be 5Ghz only thus SLO, Single Link Operation.

Ok, there are 2.4Ghz connected now and it still appears the same, but everything appears good connecting with great strength and fast speeds.
