Rax200 Different SSID for each channel, Upgrade router with channel 6,

Hi, I would like to replace my (RAX200-(2.4, 5-1, 5-2 bands each setup with different SSID)).

I want to keep the same 3 unique SSID and passwords when i upgrade.

QUESTION;

New devices seem to have tri 2.4, 5, 6 bands instead of the tri 2.4,5-1 & 5-2 of the RAX200.

Can i still use my same 3 unique SSID and passwords on a new router that has (2.4, 5, 6, band format)?

Will my devices still connect to the new 2.4,5,6 bands if i use my same SSID from my RAX200, and the 6 band be set up with the SSID & password used on the 5-2 band of the RAX200.

I am guessing I am not the only one that does not want to change SSID and passwords of their devices when upgrading wireless routers

Thank you

  • Depends on router. The (6) either means AX mode which is WiFi6 or the (6) means the frequency 6Ghz thus WiFi 6E.

If you don't use Smart Connect then 2.4, 5 and 6Ghz will have separate SSID configurations.

As microchip8 says, the answer is YES.

Idle beast that I am, I have maintained the same WiFi SSID and password over many generations of hardware this century and beyond.

All you do is to install the new kit then go in and change those settings to whatever suits you. The manuals tell you how to do that. And avoid those pesky mobile apps which may not offer that much fine control.

The only proviso is that if you jump too many generations you can hit things like the introduction of "Smart" connection, where you get just one SSID for both 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz. But if you have already crossed that Rubicon, keep on keeping on.

  • The RAX200 is a pretty rock solid and fast router.

May I ask why you're looking to upgrade?

Do you have 6ghz devices you're looking to support?

When i reboot the modem, then router RAX200 per procedure sometimes all my wireless devices do not reconnect.  So i have to got through serveral reboots of the RAX200.

I did do a factory reset the other day to start fresh, will see what happens.

Just as maintance i reboot modem and router, several times a year.

      Thank you

      • when you run into that issues, instead of factory resetting, try changing what channel the 2.4ghz is on. maybe interference is causing issues.
