RAXE300 does not connect to the internet

Hi Guys, I fear I may be about to show my ignorance, please bear with me.

I am with Vodafone using a full fibre connection from Cityfibre.

Windows11

The system works fine with the Vodafone supplied modem but will not connect to the internet when I use the RAXE300.

When I use the phone app I get a message that the cable is connected and the internet is connected and then later I get another message that says everything seems fine. But although I have good wifi, the internet does not connect.

So, I have tried the automatic setup using a browser and I get

QQQQQQQQQQQQ

RAXE300

Problem Detecting the Internet Connection

This is most likely due to one of the following reasons:

1.  The modem was not power cycled during the cabling step.

To solve this problem, power cycle the modem (turn it off and on). To power cycle a modem with battery backup, you might need to remove and reinsert its battery. After the power cycle, wait 2 minutes for the modem to completely start up.

2.  The yellow Ethernet cable is not fully inserted, or is inserted in the wrong place.

To solve this problem, make sure that the yellow Ethernet cable is securely plugged in to the broadband modem port and the router Internet port.

Try Again

My Problem Isn't Solved

UQUQUQUQUQ

Of course I have done both these, tried again and still I get no internet.

If I take the "My Problem isn't solved" option above I get taken to screen that suggests I put in the mac address of the previous (Vodafone) router, and that doesn't work either.

So, I have tried to use the browser wizard. I was given a set of data by Vodafone to do this and I plugged it into the wizard to the extent I could. And that didn't work either.

Here is an interesting point that may tell you something;   I previously had a ASUS RT AX82u and that had the same problem...

I'm lost. Anyone seen this before and knows what to do?

Best Regards

Adrian

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended

If your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
    https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.

    Try option #2 first...

Power OFF both ISP modem and RAXE router. for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and give 30 seconds then ON with the RAXE router...

      Hi,

By digging around I believe I have found my problem.

It makes no sense to me, but I have found out that CityFibre/Vodafone require you to tag the WAN port - yes, the WAN port - with 611.

I see no way to do that on the RAXE300. Does anyone here know if it can be done?

Not sure what that means. Over to the network experts.

Have you tried running the RAXE300 through the Internet setup wizard?

        Did you try this?

        vodafone cityfibre

I find it hard to believe that Vodafone has a system that doesn't allow third party routers on to the network.

Is there a Vodafone user community that you could consult?

A quick shufti at the CityFibre stuff suggests that it is full fibre, so it may reach you through an optical network termination (ONT). If you are lucky this will be a simple "hole in the wall" that you can plug in a LAN cable that runs straight into the WAN port of the RAXE300. No cheapo router bit to get in the way.

If your problem is with getting a Window 11 PC to connect, that could be more of a local thing than anything to do with the Internet connection.

Windows likes to protect us from new networks that might be evil. In reality, it can shut us out of safe networks.

One thought is that you could tell Windows that you are on a "private network".

    • Network and Internet settings
    • Network Status
    • Change Connection Properties
    • Network Profile
    • Private

I'm told that this is rubbish advice. But it has worked for me and others in the same boat.
