RAXE500 - GRC shows port scans as closed instead of stealth since last firmware

Initially, the router was always showed all port scans as "stealth" on grc.com>shieldsUP.  Since the new firmware (1.2.14.114), almost all port scans show up as "closed" (which is not ideal).  Is this recognized by Netgear, and being addressed?

There have been discussions about this which appear to indicate that the new Protection Engine has changed the router firewall from ignoring connection attempts (i.e. "stealth") to rejecting them (i.e. "closed")  Users report that disabling Protection Engine returns the behavior to the previous method (i.e. "stealth")

This leads to the conclusion that users have a definite choice:

    • Enable Protection Engine, for whatever benefit it has and accept that ports appear "closed" rather than "stealth", or
    • Not enable Protection Engine and give up (whatever the hell it does).
