Bridging vs. access point

Dear All,

I have the possibility to change the old ADSL contract (around 15mb) where I presently use my netgear DG834g V3.

I have a FIX IP contract and a VPN settled and working fine.

I have to move and my provider states that I can easily pass to a 60mb ADSL for more or less the same price.

In this case I will get a special provider router that I can set in Bridge mode and then connect my old (but perfectly working) netgear.

My doubt is:

if I connect a bridged 60mb provider router to my netgear DG834g V3, the data speed will be limited to the 18-20 or 24bm of the Netgear or the router will work at a higher speed like an ethernet switch?

  • The DG834g V3 has 100 Mbps Ethernet ports, so wired connections should be able to reach the higher speeds.  OTOH, it only supports 802.11g Wi-Fi.  The best you can hope to achieve with it is around 22 Mbps to 24 Mbps.
