Have a N300 Wi-Fi Cable Modem Router that has been working fine for many years. Yesterday had power outage that lasted about 5 minutes. When power was restored, lost our Wi-Fi and NETGEAR Genie screen appeared automatically. I followed on screen instructions and entered new password, confirmed it and then 2 new security questions and answers.  Site then stated:

Congratulations:

2.4 G wireless settings       NETGEAR12     (I had no choice on this Wi-Fi network name)

Wireless Network Key (PW)

New Admin Name

New Admin Password

BUT trying to connect to NETGEAR12 does not accept new password

Cannot find way to change network name back to our original network name.

Using my iPhone AirPort Utility, I can see that the NEATGEAR12 Wi-Fi network is working and has a strong signal.

I know it's my router Wi-Fi network because signal goes away if I shut router power OFF

How can I rename this Wi-Fi.

Going to http://182.168.0.1 does not accept user or password

PLEASE ADVISE

Regards,

Stas

  • Sounds like it might be a good idea to do a Factory Reset.

After a Factory Reset, the router typically appears at 192.168.1.1 and the web login credentials are "admin" and "password".

The WiFi credentials (SSID/password) are set to what is on the product label.

Who's your ISP? Thats a really low performing router much less modem. Its only a docsis 3.0 8x4 modem and most ISP's have dropped support for it. Might be time to start watching for some deals on modem/router combos
