C3700 Router Not Providing IP Address

Hi All,

I've been having issues with hooking my router up to my PC. I'm currently OCONUS for work and using a campus provided internet. I can sign into my internet and use it just fine without the router (but hooked up to direct ethernet in the wall).

The problem is, I can't seem to get the IP address to go through the router. This PC has been successfully hooked up to the router in the past and it hooked up to it briefly a few days ago. I know the router works and I know the internet works.

I've already tried the ipconfig prompts, factory reset and trying to use a static IP address.

I can't connect to routerlogin.net on the iPhone that it DOES successfully provide an IP address to.

I tried to connect to it via Android smartphone and it won't assign an IP to that, either.

Any help would be awesome. I don't know when the last firmware update was (probably 2017 or before). I've also tried to "forget" the network and hook up a wired connection from the wall to router to PC.

Thanks in advance!!

You state you're on campus provided internet. this could be your problem right there. I don't know your campus connection setup but some don't allow this.  I'd check with your campus IT department to see if this is something they allow and the best way to implement it.

Reason I mention this is my campus didn't allow routers/AP's/etc connected to their networks. An unmanged switch would work. Anything with managment/routing function, wouldn't work. (might have got in a bit of trouble trying to force it to work)

Save yourself some headache and contact the IT department for your campus providing the internet service.

  • I agree with plemans . Your device is a WiFi cable modem router. It needs cable connection to get Internet access. You should be getting a regular router (like R7000) instead of this model. Anyway, if you just want to know if your device can't provide an IP address, you could disconnect your C7300 and just connect it directly to your PC. Reset your device to factory default (press the reset button for 30 seconds) and once it fully boot up, do an ipconfig. Check if you can get an IP address  now.
