C7000V2 Want to upgrade to wifi 6

I hope this is the correct board... I currently have a C7000V2 which I have been using without issues for about 5 years or so. I recently upgraded my VR setup to use a standalone headset but my wifi seems to be insufficient to maintain the connection while streaming games from my PC to the headset even with all 3 devices in the same room. I assume that upgrading to wifi 6 (or better) would help with this issue but I was wondering if there would be any compatibility concerns or technical restrictions if I was to buy a Netgear wifi 6 router and connect that to my current modem instead of using the router portion of my current device? I'm trying to not replace the modem if I can help it because my ISP makes it inconvenient to authorize a new modem.

What speeds do you pay for?

    Who's your isp?

The C7000 is a pretty solid modem but it probably maxes out around 300mbps over wireless (should still be plenty for streaming)

I have Spectrum and my plan is 600 Mbps. The modem says it maxes out at 600 for the 5GHz band.

You won't hit 600mbps over 5ghz on that device. 300-400mbps are about what the 5ghz will max out on for actual throughput. (not the link speed, that actual throughput)

Might be coming up on time for an upgrade as spectrum is only approving that device to 500mbps anymore.

You could still use that modem but they might not approve it to the faster speeds.

You could put it in modem only mode and connect any router you choose it it for upgrading.
