Cannot Sign into admin panel

Hello, So reciently i did a factory reset on my device (a AC1200 Cable Modem Router (C6230)) and after the inital admin password change and security questions it want me to sign into my Netgear account to access the page.

Going through the process, even the TFA with the code sent to my phone, the login fails and brings me to a sso.cgi page saying that the "File was not found!"

I am unable to get access to my modem's dashboard to inspect things without signing in.

Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

  • Im just going to say this:

    • Thank you to everyone who helped and for your advice
    • the device is like 5-6 old at this point and the brand has trouble with my current isp.
    • I gave up. Netgear didnt want to help without a large fee
    • I just went and bought a new modem.

Sorry for the no solition resolution.

Please post a screen capture of where the modem asks for this login. (not your contents, but just the request)

I see no reason for a modem to request a Netgear login.

Perhaps there is a "way around" this (perhaps in very small type at the bottom of the page).

  • So i click "try again" and it takes me to the create an account page.

I click the log in hyperlink cause i have an accout.

I log in and go through the TFA with the 6-digit code.

And after all that i get met with this page.

Thanks for following up on this.  (Damn!)  The Forum continues to provide new experiences.

When I do a Factory Reset on Netgear devices, there is often a step offering to Register the product.  Since the product was registered when first installed, I skip this step.  Could that be what is happening here?

Perhaps a silly question: is this being done with a computer and web browser, or with the Nighthawk 'app'?

  • So i tried to factory reset the device again and i couldn't see a step to register or login during the initial set up. It just has me set the admin password then just skips right into the dashboard. Its only after I try to get back into te dashboard that all this happens.

This is also on a Desktop web browser.

What happens if you disconnect the ISP coax cable from the modem.

Then press the reset button for 10-15 seconds then release.

Give about 5 minutes, then with a ethernet connected PC and web browser (MS-Edge or Firefox), try to access the modems web page at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1?

If you can get there to the setup wizard page, see if you can complete the setup wizard process, skipping any items that you can to get to the home screen, then reconnect the ISP coax cable.

  • And the url for the file not found page is "192.168.0.1/sso.cgi" followed by like 100 random characters.

When the C6230 is Factory Reset, what IP address shows up in the dashboard for:

    • The WAN interface (to the internet)
    • The Local Area Network (LAN) that the C6230 has created for user devices.

What URL or IP address does the web browser use to access the C6230 web interface?

Most Netgear WiFi routers have a menu that includes the WAN and LAN setup.  Often the WAN information is on the Home Screen.

Since the issue appears to be inability to reach the Dashboard after the system has been Factory Reset and configured, I worry that perhaps 192.168.0.1 was the LAN IP address immediately after the Factory Reset, but the process of configuring the C6230 has changed the LAN IP on the C6230.

p.s. At some point, the subject of "Why????" is going to come up.  A DOCSIS 3.0, WiFi5 router is a bit "long in the tooth".  As long as:

    • The ISP connection is less than 400Mbps, and
    • There are not many WiFi6 capable devices in the house (modern cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc.)

then "use it until it dies."
