CAX30 not able to obtain ip address on some devices or not able to access certain websites

Hi, just purchased the nighthawk CAX30 cable modem/router, setup the wireless, and then upgrade my service with Xfinity to a higher speed. (The purpose of buying this new gateway)  Everything seems fine and able to connect to the new gateway until I updated the firmware.  It seems like some devices in my home cannot connect back to the gateway(cannot obtain IP address).  My laptop still can connect but I cannot access many websites includes the community site of netgear, the page to download firmware, speedtest.net, and for speedtest.xfinity.com I can access but the speedtest button is greyed out...  My samsung smart TV cannot obtain ip address either wire/wireless.  However, i was able to setup the ipaddress manually and it is working so far.  For my Samsung Galaxy Note10+, it can see the wifi signal but cannot obtain ip address no matter how many times it try. (phone was able to connect before firmware update)  Looking at the event log of my gateway I can see alot of "SYNC timing synchronization failure"...

I am getting the previous firmware maybe I can try to reverse it back but at the same time want to see if anyone may know the issue and have some insight on what I should do/try.

Thanks,

One thing I recommend after updating/changing firmware is a simple factory reset and reinstall.

    sometimes old settings cause issues.

Its the first thing I recommend if there's issues after changing firmware.

  • I was having this issue, in particular, with my work laptop. For some reason, CAX30 was not assigning an IP to my laptop. After playing with a few settings, I found a solution that works (so far). Under Basic > Wireless > Check "Enable Smartconnect" and save. I will update if it stops working.

Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Cable Modem products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Cable modems and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this router forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Please start a new thread there and we'll help you out.

Please use this link to the main forum product list to review and choose where to make your posts.

      Thank you.

selniss please start your own thread instead of jumping on someone else's. Helps to keep your details seperate from the OP's when we're troubleshooting.
