CG3000D suggestions on upgrade that will support many devices

I currently have a Netgear Wireless Cable Gateway CG3000D DOCSIS 3.0 through Charter.  I have trouble connecting to the internet when several devices are going at the same time in the house especially when trying to stream movies or videos.  Also, my virus scan says that I have a weak wireless network.  I believe I need to upgrade my Modem/Router.  But unsure what to upgrade to.  I would appreciate any suggestions or advice.Thank you in advance.

  • What Internet speed are you paying for?  Are you sure that you haven't simply used all of your contracted bandwidth?

There are no data caps through my Internet provider.  Its runs at 60 Mbps

      • Can you get 60 Mbps while connected to the CG3000D via Ethernet?  If yes, then the modem side is fine.  You have two options:

        1. Add an Access Point to beef up your Wi-Fi.  Any Wi-Fi router and most of Netgear's range extenders can function as an Access point.
        2. Replace the CG3000D.  I believe Charter's list of recommended modems and modem/routers is here.

If you can't get 60 Mbps while connected via Ethernet, then you may need to call Charter and have them check the connection.  If you are renting the CG3000D from them, perhaps you can ask them to upgrade it for you.

"Also, my virus scan says that I have a weak wireless network.  I believe I need to upgrade my Modem/Router."  You virus scanner is implying your passwords are weak.. Change to a stronger wifi / router login password..
