CM3000 direct connection to port 1 or 2 from laptop and says no internet

Just installed my CM3000 this morning and I’m waiting on my RS300 to arrive tomorrow so temporarily hooked up to my old Linksys EA9500 wireless router. It is hooked into the yellow multi-gig port and seems to be functioning although only showing amber light on the modem for that connection. My son’s PC is plugged into port 1 and there is no internet. Tried plugging my laptop directly in to port 2 and also no internet. I have reset the modem and verified it is not set for port aggregation. We have Xfinity if that matters. I have multiple tv’s hooked wirelessly to the Linksys and they are all working. What is going on with port 1 and 2?
  • Power OFF both CM and RS router and modem for 30 seconds then back ON with the modem and then the RS router.

Give about 1-2 minutes. The front LED on the RS Internet globe should turn WHITE.

If your using the Multi Gig port and your ISP only supportings having 1 IP address, then port 1 and 2 will not be avialble. That ISP typically only offers one WAN IP address per home. The CM series doesn't include a router. You need to connect a wifi router system to the back of the modem if you need multiple devices connected for internet services.

Thank you. That makes sense. One more question then, should I just plug my RS300 into the multi gig port then, and not worry about the whole aggregation thing? That is definitely new to me.

        Yes.

When your new router arrives, be sure and disconnect all Ethernet cables from the modem and restart it by pulling/inserting the power cord.  Once it is fully booted and connected to your ISP, then connect your new router to the 2.5 Gbps modem port and power up your router.  Be sure and use a good quality Ethernet cable.  Cat 6 STP type is recommended for this application.
