CM500 - Xfinity Compatibility Lost 8.29.22
Xfinity changed their system in early morning of Monday August 29, 2022. This change was incompatible with my Netgear CM500 (DOCSIS 3.0) modem. This was done without any notification. so we lost all internet access. The quickest solution was to add the Xfinity modem/router. That required nearly 5 days to acquire. That unit is working well, but it irritates me to be coerced into using their equipment when THEY created the problem! Now I am researching options for restoring utility of my CM500 modem.
Have you heard of this issue from other users? Is there an firmware/software upgrade that may remedy the problem?
I have a bit of computer literacy, so should be able to comprehend your answers.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.

It's up to ISP to support or not support user owned modems and they make the policies when they stop supporting older model modems. You'll need to discuss with the ISP on if they are going to continue to support it or not. If not, you'll need to get something that is on there supported modem list. Some ISP should notifiy there customers of any changes, however some may not. I remember I bought brand new Docsis 2.0 modem 20 years ago, The ISP soon stopped supporting it. So I had to get something newer. Just happens as new tech gets moved along.

What part of the US are you located in? Xfinity does not just flip a switch and change their systems all over the US from DOSCIS 3.0 to DOSCIS 3.1. Xfinity has too many customers with DOSCIS 3.0 modems and DOSCIS 3.0 set top boxes to orphan them overnight.
The CM500 is still listed here: https://kb.netgear.com/000036375/What-s-the-latest-firmware-version-of-my-NETGEAR-cable-modem-or-modem-router

Lafayette, Indiana - customer service advised they had made local system changes. The CM500 is less than 2 years old.
