Connecting ROKU device to Comcast TV...Modem model # is CM500V

Trying to connect ROKU device to Comcast cable TV (Phillips Smart TV, about 10 years old). Does ROKU need to be listed with NetGear Modem or Router? Tried connecting device with HDMI cable but with no success (HDMI ports all indicate "No input signal").

Any suggestions?

       Ok.

Which Roku model?  Did you intend to connect it wirelessly (to
whatever)?  What is your (unspecified) "Router"?

Generally, the only thing which you'd connect to your modem would be
your router (WAN/Internet port).  Any client device (like, say, a Roku
box) would be connected to the router (LAN Ethernet port or wireless
    LAN).

"connecting device with HDMI cable" to the TV?  If you can't get a
video display from the thing on your TV, then a network connection would
seem to be the least of your problems.

Any Roku device needs to be connected to a wifi router. The CM modem you have is just a modem only. No wifi or router. So connect up a wifi router of your choosing to the CM modem then connect the Roku to the wifi router.

"Any"?  Does a Roku box with an Ethernet port need "a wifi router"?
      I doubt it.
