Considering CM1150V Purchase

Greetings.  I amconsidering a CM1150V modem to replace my Xfinity-rented Arris TG1682G.  After reading some of the posts here, I am a bit confused and concerned.  I currently have no plans to sign on for the gig speed plan with Xfinity, but may consider it in the future if need arises.  Here are a couple questions that I have:

1. What is the current firmware?  The support page indicates that the CM1150V is only approved for Xfinity and is at v1.01.07.  However I have read some posts that indicate the firmware loaded on their CM1150V is higher than this.

2. Is there a expected firmware release date to activate port aggregation?  I realize that I am at the mercy of Comcast to push it out, but I wanted to know if Netgear has a release date.

3. Are there any recommended checks/tests that I should perform on my current setup with Xfinity prior to replacing the modem to help aleviate potential issues when switching?

I realize that this is a vauge post.  Just looking for insight and/or opinions while in the planning stages.

Thank You.

  • Well it's something to try out and if it doesn'twork you can send the modem back if you find a good seller with a good refund policy.

DOCSIS 3.1 is stable currently. However thats mostly kept for 1Gg services. Most speeds under that are still using DOCSIS 3.0

    Good Luck.

  • If I were you I would wait and see if/when they (both xfinity and netgear get there head out of their ars and fix the darn thing. I have this over a week now and each blame the other for the upload bug the reboot bug the pairing with a router bug and so on and so on.

It has been nothing but trouble for me and many others with this CM1150V. You would think for the premium price and xfinity saying it is approved it would work ..lol thats a joke..

NG doesn't post FW version for it's modems. Those get handled and pushed out by the ISP when they certify and start supporting modems on there system. ALL ISPs handle FW updates. ISP work with Modem Mfrs and they hand off FW updates to ISPs to test and ensure they don't break anything while on there ISP system. BE AWARE that some ISPs will not update FW on customer owned modems.

    2. Is there a expected firmware release date to activate port aggregation?  I realize that I am at the mercy of Comcast to push it out, but I wanted to know if Netgear has a release date.

Again, NG doesn't post any information about forth comming FW updates. All is handled by the ISPs. If you need LAG, I would recommend the CM1100 or CM1200. Both support LAG and up to 1Gb service. Connect to a NG R7960P for full WAN and LAN side LAG support.

    3. Are there any recommended checks/tests that I should perform on my current setup with Xfinity prior to replacing the modem to help aleviate potential issues when switching?

Ensure there are no coax line splitters between the modem and ISP service box. Have the ISP ensure the signal is good up to the modem.

Thanks for the feedback.  I currently have the voice option with my internet, which is why I was considering the CM1150V over the CM1000.  However it seems like the DOCSIS 3.1 technology is still too new to be reliable, so maybe I will just sit back and see how it all works out.  I really just wanted to get rid of the monthly modem rental, but do I want to trade $13/month for a continual headache?

      Thanks again.
