D6000 connection problems

On going network/internet connection problems with D6000 AC750 WiFi DSL Modem Router. Purchased because we finaly moved into the 20th century and now have a "smart TV". Trouble is the Modem Router is giving us continuous grief.

Eventualy a connection is made, (here I am),but each time I turn it on, the router indicates network connection not available. It is available or I would not be able to post this.

I am not a PC genius, older and more dinasaur like. Just want to turn on to read emails, or occasionaly access the web. Why is it so difficult? Shall I return this recently purchased product for a refund? Looks like many similar difficulties encountered by other people when using this D6000 model. Web site indicates A040A07DFBOE is an invalid serial number, because it only has 12 digits. It is what it is, and is taken from the back of the recently purchased router. Where too from here??? Any and all help gratefully received.

That may depend on what's wrong.

What is not what it is?

First, with twelve digits, it looks like a MAC address, not a serial
number.  Second, "0" (zero) and "O" (letter) are different.  Considering
    that you've posted a question about a DSL modem+router in a "Cable
Modems & Routers" forum, your clerical accuracy is open to question.
I'd expect to see only "0" (zero), not "O" (letter), in either the MAC
    address or the serial number.

How, exactly, does it indicate this?  LED indicator?  The router's
management Web interface?  Have you checked with your ISP (or other DSL
vendor) to see if the fine-print DSL parameters look good from their
end?  This stuff is actually complicated, and many problems are possible
in many places, but it's usually possible to get things to work.

The less you know, the more important it is accurately to report
actual actions and observations, rather than vague descriptions or
    interpretations.

If you don't already have the User Manual for this thing, then visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look for
    Documentation.

  • Thanks for your prompt reply.

I have tried A040A07DFBOE labled MAC, and 3VT5755A003F1 labled Serial.

3V.... receives the message "This Serial number has already been registered in our system by a support representative."

A0.... receives the message " NETGEAR products have 13 digit serial numbers usually printed on the bottom or the back panel of the device".

Each of these creates a block in the process that disallows registration.

Sorry about choosing the wrong discussion group, lack of understanding on my part.    How do I change to the correct discussion group?
