IP Addressing
ok, hi, first of all, my netgear router is a r6020. its not selectable.
anyways,
i set it up correctly and can browse the internet and use wifi, however, my pc has the ipaddress 10.0.0.3...

Not in the "Cable Modems & Routers" forum, no. You'd have a better

Except that some sub-genius at Netgear disabled that one, apparently
leaving lower R6xxx models, like the R6020, homeless.

That's what happens when you cascade multiple routers.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Look for "Use the Router as a
WiFi Access Point Only".
Your router does NAT and some firewalling, not all direct connections are possible (however in general basic IP services would go through).
The question is why on earth are you operating two NAT router (the modem/router and the R6020) what does lead to two different independent LAN with different IP addresses?
Most simple approach (without touching the modem/router) would be to connect all systems to one router only, either the modem/router, or the R6020..
Not always possible is the reconfiguration of the unspecified modem/router to act as a pure modem/bridge, and have the public IP address on the R6020 Internet/WAN interface, as it has to be ideally.
What is the intended purpose, how came the R6020 into the game?
nah its ok the problem is fixed. the answer was to run the R6020 is wifi access point only mode.
The situation is that the house is very long and large, the router/modem being a good 50m (160 ft) from the location of the R6020.
The house has built in cat 5e in the walls, that exit out to different rooms.
to be honest the R6020 will need replacing with something that supports gigabit LAN speeds and wifi, but also function primarily as an access point and not supply a DHCP.
Can you recommend something??
