Most modem/router combo units do get warm.

To verify how hot its' getting, you'd need to get you a laser temp guage and see how hot it's getting. Then look at the spec sheet to see the temp range that is set for this modem.

Be sure the modem is in a well ventilated room. You can always place a laptop fan cooler under the modem to help keep the modem cool. Something I always do with my gateway modem I use.

      > [...] HOT [...]

         Define "HOT".

      > is this normal or the unit is deffective?

Hard to say, without knowing what "this" is.

If the thing works (for many years), then it might be normal.

If you're worried about it, then I'd complain to Netgear support
while the warranty is still in effect.

         Or any suitable thermometer.

I've never seen a "spec sheet" which mentions the case temperature of
a device like this.  Has anyone?
