N450 - Crashes/reboots itself every couple minutes

I have been running tthe N450 for a little over 3 months now with little to no problems. A couple days ago I noticed that I was randomly having connection issues.  Upon further inspection I noticed that my route was crashing or rebooting itself.  I thought it was a bit odd, but now it seem to do it all the time.  Sometimes operation for as little as 2-5 minutes befor it crashes or reboots.  I have even watched it crash when no computers where on and no wireless devices connected.  last night it crashed atleast 10 times, making it very difficult almost impossible to stream a show on Hulu.  The crash/reboot sequence is a follows:

1. normal operation

2. LEDs on router turn solid

3. connection is lost, LEDs blink anout 24 times

4. router statup sequence

5. connection is restored and back to normal operation

I have been trying my best to troubleshoot the problem.  I have unpluged it atleast a dosen time, and even plugged it into a differant outlet. The firmware is up to date.  It crashed when there was no devices connected, so I don't think it is someting on my computer. The frequency of the rebooting has me ruling out ISP connection problems. Before I resort to a factory reset, I want to see if any one has had a similar issue or any ideas of what I can do to resolve.  Thanks for the help!

  • First step to start trouble-shooting, remove all the cables, devices from router power cycle router and leave it, does it still act up?  Is the router hot to touch? Have spare power adapter to try? Looked at syslog?

  • I have been experiencing this as well starting about a week & half ago with XFINITY. The wireless drops out, I cold-reboot, it seems ok, then it drops out again. It worked fine a couple days, but after a couple chat sessions with XFINITY & a call to their wireless support, they say that nothing seems wrong on their end then the issues starts happening again. Have you come to any conclusions as to what is going on?

on your side whereever you are. UInless some good info. is provided there is nothing much any one can do. You just keep saying

it does not work well. Sorry.  I am asking again. Is Xfinity modem is jut modem or is it modem/router combo? How did you set up

your own router? Are you using Genie?

VE6CGX thanks for the sugestions.  Sorrry I'm just now responding, it has been a busy mothers day!  The Modem is not hot to the touch.  The Modem is mine and my ISP is COX.  I will try running the router with the cables re.  I will have to look for an alternate power cable as well. Thanks!
