Netgear CM1100 - Less than half of 1.2Gbps Xfinity gigabit extra plan.

When I had just the Gigabit plan, I used to regularly  clock 900+Mbps on my desktop connected with ethernet cable. The configuration is Netgear CM1100 modem ==> Orbi RBR50 router==> Netgear 1 gig switch ==> Desktop. When my plan was automatically upgraded to gigabit extra, I am no longer able to get to the 900 Mbps speed. I clock 500 Mbps or below in the Xfinity speed tests. I totally understand that I can't get the full 1.2 GBPs with my current equipment, but why is my speed limited to 500 Mbps, suddenly?

I read somewhare that the CM1100 is only capable of 949 Mbps, but I'd be so glad to get that instead of 500 Mbps I am getting now! I also read that somehow reprovisioning the modem helped resolve the speed issue. How do I do that?

You never see anything much past 900Mpbs due to the Ports on the CM modem, RBR50 and the Switch all being max connection rated at 1000Mpbs.

Run a speed test with a ethernet connected PC connected to WAN port #1 on the CM modem with out the RBR online. Use Ooklas installable speed test app to test. Should see over 900Mpbs here.

Please post a copy and paste of the modems connection status and event log page.

Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

Most likely you need to power down and restart your network in sequence.

      1.  Pull the power cord on your modem.

      2. Pull the power cord on the main station of your mesh router system.

      3. Power down your computers and mobile devices.

      4. Take a breath.

      5. Power up your modem and give it ample time to fully boot, stabilize, and connect to the internet.  Look for the internet connection LED on the front.

      6. Power up your router main station.  Give it ample time to boot and connect to the internet.  Look for the internet connection LED on the front.

      7. Restart your computers and mobile devices.

When you check for throughput, use the Ookla stand alone application available in the play store.  Avoid the web browser tests as they add a layer that is not necessary.

  • Hello,

As mentioned in my other post, I am only getting 500 Mbps on a 1.2Gbps plan. I read some other posts where users have posted logs from their modem. I used to be able to go to the modem's home page at 192.168.100.1to look at the logs. This does not work anymore. I have tried Chrome & edge browsers.  The error message is

    This site can’t be reached

192.168.100.1 took too long to respond.

    Any thoughts?

What happens if you disconnect the ISP coax cable from the modem and then press the reset button on the back of the modem for 10 seconds then release. Give a minute then try to access the modems web page at that IP address?

I would have a wired PC connected directly to WAN port #1 when you do this to check.
