ping and tracert OK but no internet

I have a N450 CG3000Dv2 the cannot reach the internet, but ping and tracert requests are ok.  The only incident was a power cycle or cut wednesday.  there were not issues before that.  The modem router was probably on for a month or more before that, and remained in place. I can accept Facetime requests, but the connection is not established.  Web browsers can page a page, and throw up a message to check proxy or firewall. I never set up either one to be in use.  Ping and tracert to my primary DNS and websites work fine.  Tracert seems slow, but I have no benchmark.  I factory reset the moden router and returned to my config (name/pwd) easliy.  Everything inside the house (camere and computers) all have the expected access.  nothing can get out to surf the net.

Any suggested troubleshooting steps?  Thanks,

My origial post should have posted as:

Web browsers can load a page, and throw up a message to check proxy or firewall.

Firefox, Midori, Edge, Ice Weasel, Opera, Chromium, SAfari, and Chrome all through the same error.

  • With the DHCP server turned off and NAT turned off, I can access the internet through a web browser using a patch cable to port 1 of 4 on the device.  PING and surfing are pretty quick.  In this bridge mode, it seems the modem work but there are issues with the Router half of this N450 moden router.

Since Mediacom will not push software/firmware updates, it there a means for me to download and execute them myself?  This assumes I need new firmware beyond  NETGEAR N450 software version is V1.02.10

Sounds like you have two routers involved.  Like Modem >> router A >> another router.B. In this case router A should be put into bridge mode or router B should be in AP mode.

        Um.. no.

The NETGEAT N450 modem router is a cable modem and router.

  • I have kept fussing with it this weekend.  The symptoms are repeatable.  Starting with a factory reset, ping works but no internet.  I can return to my preferred channel and SSID, camera and ping work, but no internet.  I can add wired laptop and a wireless laptop, camera and ping, but not internet.

I then turn off DHCP and I can access the internet.  However, I cannot return to the NETGEAR N450 admin page, and I cannot add new devices w/out DHCP.  In this bridge mode I am seeking mediacom 173.xx.xx.x as my access point/gateway.

What might this be the symptom of?

It would appear that this is not an O/S or modem issue or ISP issue.  Is that correct?

  • Here is another kicker.  I can ping the router but the router diagnostic tool in the web admin consoel of the N450 cannot ping my comptur.  Should that be the case?

You know what? Whenla problem we're unable to nail down the problem.  I raised q,uestion about you being able to connect to internet

after turning off DHCP. Then who is taking over the job of DHCP? And another thing until problem is solved don't hang too many extra devices

to the router which may compound the issues.

I always have a back up router at ready. When some thing happens with main router I put in back up one and take the main router off the

network. Then I trouble-shoot the problem with minimum impact to the users(family members, they don't even know they are on different

      router)
