Question about DDNS and freedns.org

Looking to see if I purchased the NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Wi-Fi DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Router (C7000-100NAS) if it supported adding DDNS addresses. Specifly I will need to add freedns.afraid.org so that it will update my ip address. By the looks of what I have found netgear only supports dyndns. Is this the case?

there should be 3- 4 options in DynamicDNS dropdown menu which includes NETGEAR supported NOIP as well. Are you seeing only 1?

    • I'm not seeing any. I don't have the device - I was planning on buying the device if I can add a custom DDNS entry or if it already supports freedns.afraid.org - Do you happen to know?

        Sorry, afraid.org is not there.

I see there NETGEAR-NOIP, NOIP,dyndns.org, and dtdns.com options in there..

        can you use above options?

  • I was having trouble connecting to my freedns.afraid.org DDNS when I set up my nighthawk R8000.  Once I enabled DDNS through the router and registered for a mynetgear.com DDNS, I was able to connect through my previous freedns.afraid.org domain as well as my newly created mynetgear.com domain.  I think just enabling DDNS through the router itself might actually enable freedns.afraid.org access without registering with netgear, but I have not tried that.  Good Luck.
