Re: C7800 Nighthawk Firmware Release Information

Having the same issue right now. Bought this thing so I can install my own DNS shield and I can't do any of that or use parental controls until the firmware is updated. Can't even use the Netgear app.

I saw on another post with the same modem issue, they said to login to the router and factory reset it, that it would automatically update the router.

That's kind of my only option. I keep getting tosses around with Cox, being told they can't update user owned modems and it's frustrating that this is even an issue.

People just don't care.

I guess I'll try the factory reset and maybe that'll send a notification or signal or whatever to the ISP to update my router.

I don't know if it's some Joe Blow behind a desk somewhere that has to click a button to do it or if it's some automated task. But surely this could be more efficient.

Some guy pointed out that this is 2 generation old router. Not even really an argument. There's still 4G LTE on most cell towers yet 6G is rolling out. Do you see my point? Just because something is 2 generations old doesn't mean it should be abandoned and the consumer left with no options. That's not even sustainable if that were the case.

  • Updating the firmware on a customer owned modem is strictly at the option of the internet service provider (ISP).

Whatever the reason, technical or otherwise, if Cox says no then no is your answer as long as you are connected to their network.

You bought it to run DNS shield.

Which is what exactly? Is it a 3rd party service for DNS?
If so, you can go in and change the DNS without issues. I've ran PiHold fo years on all my devices.
