so when i connect my laptop(no othe device is connected at this time) to the modem majic happens but when i connect the ps4(no other divce is connected at this time as well) to the mode there is no majic&nbsp;

&gt; [...] why doesnt my ps4 connet the modem through ethernet cable but my&gt; laptop does without a problem&nbsp;&nbsp; I don't know.&nbsp; Are you trying to connect them at the same time?&nbsp; How?&nbsp;&nbsp; Even if you connect only one device to the modem, you may need torestart the modem (and then the device) when you change the device whichis connected to the modem.&nbsp;&nbsp; Connecting a router to the modem would make it easier to use multipledevices.&nbsp; The modem would see only the router, not a bunch of differentdevices.&nbsp; A router can deal better with multiple client devices.

&gt; so when i connect my laptop(no othe device is connected at this time)&gt; to the modem majic happens but when i connect the ps4(no other divce is&gt; connected at this time as well) to the mode there is no majic&nbsp;&nbsp; Your modem connects a device to your ISP.&nbsp; That device gets its IPaddress and other information from your ISP at that time.&nbsp; The ISP alsogets an identity (MAC address) from the device which you connected.&nbsp; Atthat point, the ISP thinks that its job is done.&nbsp;&nbsp; If you disconnect that device from your modem, and connect adifferent device to the modem, then your ISP may not allow the differentdevice to connect, because it's a different device (with a different MACaddress).&nbsp; Many cable-TV ISPs are strict about connecting to differentdevices.&nbsp; If you restart the modem, you may get another chance.&nbsp;&nbsp; If you get a router, and connect that to the modem, you may havesimilar trouble.&nbsp; The router will be seen as a still different device.Again, restarting the modem may help.&nbsp; In some cases, you may need tocall your ISP and provide the MAC address of the router.&nbsp; (Many routerscan be configured to provide the MAC address from some other deviceinstead of its own, and that feature can also work around a problem likethis.)&nbsp;&nbsp; When you stop connecting different devices to your modem, thistrouble should stop.
