Stopping Incoming Ping
I use a model CG3100 Netgear wireless cable voice gateway modem router to connect my home network to the world. A recent internet security article I read recommended setting router firewall rules to not allow pings requests from the web. Not sure if this is good advice or not, and would welcome knowledgable community feedback..... but also want to know how to accomplish this. I logged into my router setup page and see the (attached) menu. But I cannot find anything as simple as a "block incoming ping requests" selection anywhere within these menu items. I am an IT novice.... and so would also appreciate community input on what technical terminology I ought to be looking for within this menu instead. Many thanks in advance, Dave M.
Your screen shot is not showing. In any case, most routers will, by default, not respond to incoming ping requests. There is usually a setting to control this. AFAICT, on the CG3100, the setting is under the DMZ Host section, called Respond to Ping on WAN Port. Make sure it is unchecked.

Hello TheEther. Thanks much for your prompt and understandable reply to my post. Sorry about the buggered screen shot..... but I opened the menu item you defined, the wording was exactly as you described..... and the tick box was unchecked. So I left it that way. Thanks again !! Cheers, Dave M.
