switching to Xfinity voice

I have been using, succesfully, a Netgear C6220 modem/router formy Xfinity (Comcast) internet service. I am adding Xfinity voice, but the C6220 does not have a phone connection. Can I simply purchase a CM500V modem and connect it to the C6220, or will there be a problem with the router trying to identify an external modem. It seems that this would be a less expensive solution than replacing the C6220 which is less than a year old.

You would have to contact comcast and see if they support thrid party voice modems if not you would need a modem for just your phone from comcast.

C6220 cannot be connected behind CM500V

CM500V cannot be connected behind C6220.

If you want Voice service from comcast, you should either replace your C6220 with CM500V+Router or C7100V. both of them are bit of expensive options for you.

Alternatively, you can choose non-comcast voice service such as OOMA. It is not recommended by NTGR but just provided as option.

Thank you for the responses. I purchased the CM500V, put a splitter on the cable line and am using the CM500V as a stand alone voice modem. I left the C6220 as is, with the other side of the splitter going to it. Comcast said I may have lower than desirable power but so far so good.

yes, that option works as well.

note that CM500V has more DOCSIS channels. If you buy new router in future when technology changes, please connect it behind CM500V and not C6220.
