Is there a way to add a third AV 500 Powerline adapter to an existing pair?

I have XWNB5201 kit. One powerline adapter connected to the router and a corresponding powerline wifi access point. This access point is in my basement. I notice that my router coverage is patchy upstairs too. But I am not sure if I can just buy another powerline wifi access point and connect to the same powerline adapter connected to the router. Has anyone done something like this?

  • You would be able to do just that. Just add to the powerline network as detailed in the manual.

So would it be safe to assume I can also use a 2-port XAVB5602 as the third unit joining an existing pair of AV 500's? (This is on a different floor and other end of the house, so perhaps a little more of a risk, but want to make sure it at least theoretically should work before I buy. This 3rd area has a couple of computers that could use the help.)

Yes, and the easiest test would be to move your basement powerline upstairs and see if it connects and at what speed. Then you can go get the XAVB5602 and be all set.

I've also had success with the actiontec 4-port powerline kit working well with the netgear products if you need more ports (cheaper too):
