Setting up multiple powerline plugs can be a pain, especially if you mix different brands. But they should be compatible, as long as they are not historic. Newer plugs work to the AV standard.
You can run a Powerline network from a single host plug on the router. But you have to add the other plugs.
When adding new plugs to an existing network, you need to follow this advice:

That is for Netgear plugs, but other makes should have a similar strategy.
You can add plugs in the same room to make it easy and then move them to where you want them. The plugs will remember their settings.
