XAV5421 & XAV5201 powerline devices won't give an IP on electrical outlets in living room only
Hi everyone, I have a XAV5201 cabled into my R7000 router and I have an XAV5421 which will ONLY give an IP adress 169.... in my living room but will work fine giving out my 192.168.0.x addresses in other electrical outlets in other parts of my home and functions. I have switched the XAV5201 off and on several times but no change.
I know nothing about the eletrical side. What's going on in my living room?
Thanks in advance

So the 169 address isn't really an address at all coming from the router. That's what devices are supposed to 'auto-assign' themselves if they don't find a dhcp server. Stupid, I know. I've never found a use for this. It was a lot easier to diagnose things when you simply didn't get an address.
So you're basically not getting any IP in that living room. There's a couple of things to check. You mentioned that the 5421 gives you an IP address (proper 192 one coming from your router) in other outlets, but just not in the living room. Do the lights on the 5421 indicate it is getting a powerline connection to the other powerlines? If so, how strong is it?
If that is all okay, next thing to check will be the ethernet cable that goes from the 5421 to the computer and the link lights on both the computer and the 5421. Do both the computer and the 5421 indicate a link? If not, try a different cable and see if that works.
Report back what you find and we'll go from there.

First get the two devices talking to each other in the same room, where they should be on the same electricity circuit.
When you have achieved that, move the "remote" plug to the other room. If that doesn't work, your house may have wonky wiring.
I assume that you have read the literature that goes with these devices:

My first guess is, they are two different powerline devices, and won't talk to each other. Typically one would use same type pair of powerline devices (purchase in pairs).
Second guess, (if they are compatible) is that there is a possibility that they do not see each other as the issue at hand could be a house wiring issue, or a phase issue, or electrical interference issue. As a test, try a different outlet other than the living room, to see if these devices see each other.
