A8000 disconnects periodically and won't reconnect without a reset

The Problem: A8000 in my Windows 10 desktop occasionally disconnects (and by disconnect I mean it turns off, no blue light) and it won't reconnect/turn on unless I reset the adapter (via switch usb ports, enable/disable, or run the troubleshooter). None of my other devices have this issue. Gigabit internet, USB 3.0 port.

What I've Tried: I've disabled the power saving options on all my USB ports and on the adapter itself. I've disabled USB selective suspend. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the adapter. I've switched USB ports, I've disabled all other WiFi adapters. Installed the latest driver (V1.0.0.125).

The A8000 has been great when it works, but it's so unreliable. Any ideas?

  • The Power Managemnet option seems to have worked for me.  I did not switch it off for all USB ports, just the Netgear8000 port.  device manager -> network adapters -> Netgear etc -> properties -> power management. Switch off "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.".  I am still connecting to 5Ghz.

  • I had been been searching everywhere for a fix to this issue (not impressed by Netgears lack of caring). After trying everything, and to the point of fantasizing about throwing it against the wall, I found the fix for me.

I logged in to my router and saw that the dongle was only connecting to my 5ghz wi-fi and never the 2.4 ghz. It would connect but shortly after disconnect with any load on 5ghz. I split the frequencies to two different names and only connected to the 2.4ghz and haven't had a single disconnect.

I would like to thank Netgear for motivating me to make more money to invest in a hardwire connection. After the wiring project is complete, I will punt this dongle off the nearest bridge. Do better Netgear.

Hey TAC0! I had similar issues with A8000 I tried this power saving method u can do this too. Even though you've disabled the power-saving options, double-check to ensure that Windows isn't cutting power to your USB ports. Sometimes, multiple areas need adjustment.

Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers. For each listed USB Root Hub, right-click, go to Properties, then under the Power Management tab, uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
