AC1200 Wifi Extender Can't Connect to Xfinity Gateway
Hello, I am having trouble getting my Xfinity Gateway (XB8-T) to recognize my wifi extender. Sadly, it was connecting fine with the old gateway model and I was upgraded for free and now can't get it to connect.
I have tired factor reset and WEP setup. While it appears to try and connect, some times the router light never lights, sometimes it goes breifly red and then nothing.
When I go to the setup website and set it up, it acts like the setup is working, and I can connect devices but then it says there is no internet (because it doesn't appear to be connecting to my gateway router).
I even tried connecting ethernet from my router to the extender directly, tried resetting and used the WEP button and it still didn;t work.
I am about to give up and just buy an expensive Gateway Pod. This is my last ditch effort for help. When I spent several hours on a chat with Xfinity, they tried creating a bridge on my gateway which broke everything and I couldn't connect at all. I had to go exchange my gateway at the store. Looking at what a bridge does, I dont think the people knew what they were talking about.
I have even logged into the Gateway and can't figure out what admin settings might be hindering this.
I ended up ordering a new Wi-Fi extender, different brand and it was simple to connect and is working great. I can only assume something crapped out with the netgear. I didn’t want to go with the pods in case I ever change network providers. Luckily it worked at half the cost of the pods

What is the model of the Netgear WiFi extender?

Its the AC1200 Wifi Extender

Netgear has about a dozen WiFi extenders labeled AC1200. (a marketing description of "speed") The actual product model number from the label on the product is more helpful. Probably "A"-something or "EX" - something.
My goal would be to enter the product number on this web page to look up the User Manual:
https://www.netgear.com/support/
Then look up in the User Manual how to perform a Factory Reset on the WiFi Extender and how to connect it to a WiFi system.

EX6150v2. I have looked quite a bit through all the posts on the site here. I have factory reset several times using a safety pin, the green light blinks and turns green. I tried the WEP connection process pushing the button on both the extender and the gateway. The gateway blinks blue. The extender sometimes never has the router light come on at all, sometimes it goes red and then blacks out.
I have tried going to the wifi for the extender, clicking it and starting the setup steps of creating a password, adding my network ID and passwords etc. It goes through the full setup process recognizing my internet settings but when it finishes, it says its not connected. My devices connect to the extender and the "network" i created 2G or 5G, but because the extender didn't properly connect to my internet router, it doesn't work.

Thanks for the model number. I see no reason why the WPS connection method should not work. Notice that you have to perform it two times: once for 2.4G and once for 5G.
(page 10: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/EX6150v2/EX6150v2_UM_EN.pdf)
(also notice that WEP is an older security protocol that this device does not support. consumer WiFi routers quit using WEP more than 10 years ago.)

Yes I found this manual as well and already tried this. The problem is that I never get a green router light. Besides setting up via this process I also tried plugging in the router to the extender with a Ethernet cable and that also didn’t work

I also tried plugging my extender to my laptop and accessing setup through the website and it immediately just gives a message it’s not connected. I didn’t try factory resetting while connected to my computer via a Ethernet cable. Maybe I should try that? I assumed resetting and having it connected directly to the router would work but it didn’t.

Amazon says it will be delivered by noon on Tuesday (tomorrow). Will see how it works on my home WiFi system fairly quickly.

OK, I used this extender without issue on my last gateway. So I know how it’s supposed to work. For some reason as soon as I upgraded my gateway, it would not reconnect to the new one. I’m not sure if there’s different ways to try to connect it that I could try, or if there’s a setting on my gateway that I should be looking for that might be blocking it. Or if there’s a way to get it manually added as a device to my gateway.
I’m about to give up and just get a Xfinity pod. I was just trying not to spend $120

(This is "me". Having problems getting my regular Netgear account to log in.)
Did not read the Amazon page correctly and ordered an EX6120 instead of the EX6150v2. $30 is my "magic limit" for Forum questions. If a product costs under $30, I often buy one just to test.
So, the EX6120 connected just like my EX3700 did. WAIT (for almost 40 seconds) for the power LED to turn from red to green. Press the WPS button. Press WPS button on my router. WAIT... WAIT... FINALLY Router LED turns green and the EX6120 appears on my list of Attached Devices.
One thing different about the EX6150v2 is the switch to change from Extender to AP mode. Can you double check how this switch is set?

Thats very kind of you.
The switch is set to Extender. And I did all the things you mention. The WPS button and its just not connecting. Sometimes i get a red long blink of the router light on the extender, then it goes off and nothing. More often, I dont even get that.

There are EX6150v2 for under $20 on eBay, but delivery isn't like Amazon. (I spent a LOT more investigating a different issue. But if you intend to "move on", to a different solution there's not much point in getting one.
Are any other devices having problems connecting to the Xfinity gateway?
Are there any WPS settings on the Xfinity gateway that might be affecting the connection?
(or a forum on Xfinity where users discuss connection topics?)

There are no other devices having issue connecting to the gateway. As for the WPS settings on the Xfinity, i have no idea. I have logged into the Xfinity gateway app and looked around at my device settings but nothing stands out. And I have also logged into the admin settings of the gateway on the web using the ip address. Again, didn't see anything outside of Bridge Settings but I dont think thats what I want and actually BROKE it when i spent hours on chat support with Xfinity the first time I tried to fix this. I dont trust the xfinity support anymore as I was dropped from chat four times, and then they broke the gateway so nothing would connect anymore and I had to go to a store and exchange it for a new one.
