AC1200 Wifi Extender Can't Connect to Xfinity Gateway
Hello, I am having trouble getting my Xfinity Gateway (XB8-T) to recognize my wifi extender. Sadly, it was connecting fine with the old gateway model and I was upgraded for free and now can't get it to connect.
I have tired factor reset and WEP setup. While it appears to try and connect, some times the router light never lights, sometimes it goes breifly red and then nothing.
When I go to the setup website and set it up, it acts like the setup is working, and I can connect devices but then it says there is no internet (because it doesn't appear to be connecting to my gateway router).
I even tried connecting ethernet from my router to the extender directly, tried resetting and used the WEP button and it still didn;t work.
I am about to give up and just buy an expensive Gateway Pod. This is my last ditch effort for help. When I spent several hours on a chat with Xfinity, they tried creating a bridge on my gateway which broke everything and I couldn't connect at all. I had to go exchange my gateway at the store. Looking at what a bridge does, I dont think the people knew what they were talking about.
I have even logged into the Gateway and can't figure out what admin settings might be hindering this.
I ended up ordering a new Wi-Fi extender, different brand and it was simple to connect and is working great. I can only assume something crapped out with the netgear. I didn’t want to go with the pods in case I ever change network providers. Luckily it worked at half the cost of the pods

I was thinking about something like this:

Wireless Protected Setup (WPS) was really prominent years ago (not so much these days). Would you happen to have another device that can be set up using a WPS button?
(television? printer?)

I did try to just connect my printer but its old and have been having issues getting it connected wirelessly for a long time....even with the last gateway. so no, I have not been able to connect anything via WPS.
Is there another way to connect the extender directly to the router through an ethernet? I have tried a few ways but can't figure out how to get it to work. Any other ideas?
I feel like its like Apple, they are forcing me to go with their stuff for ease.

I should add that my router does blink blue which tells me (according to the xfinity site) that its setup for the WPS to work.

This is on page 15 of the user manual. Move the switch from Extender to Access Point and connect an Ethernet cable between the EX6150v2 Ethernet jack and the host router. The 2.4G and 5G WiFi SSIDs should appear in a minute or so. (Computers never seem to do things as quickly as I expect them to.)
My experience with WPS is mixed. Documentation and YouTube videos never seem to say much about how long to hold WPS buttons. Will a "click" do it? Or, does it need to be longer? (how much longer?) I now press WPS, say, "one second, two second", and let go. Also, the connection doesn't seem to take place instantly, either.

Thank you. I will take a look at the page 15 user manual and try that. Also with the pushing of the button, i agree. I have tried quick pushes and also long push. Neither seemed to work. Appreciate your trying to help me. If this manual way (AP) doesn't work I will just throw in the towel. I wondered about the AP option but didn't know if that would work the same.

There is one major difference between Extender and Access Point (AP) mode: the Ethernet cable.
People generally want to deploy additional WiFi units because the existing units do not coverage a wide enough area. If installing Ethernet cables was convenient, they would simply "run a cable" to whatever device needs network access. So, the EX6150v2 will create a new WiFi access point, but unless the unit can be moved away from the existing WiFi sources, that doesn't add much capability.

Oh, so the ethernet cable has to stay connected? yeah that defeats the purpose. I was thinking I could set it up with the cable, to get the units to recognize eachother then disconnect and move. So that isn't how it works?

Yes, the whole issue is unstable connections in the back bedrooms of the house. I used this unit previously in my sons room to help with my older child and my room get access. Hoping to do that again

"Extender Mode" is designed for this application. Access Point mode could be used for other situations.
So, with the switch in the Extender position, power it on and perform a Reset (page 46). (I prefer to use an extension cord so that I can hold the gizmo in my hand.)
Once it powers up and the LED (finally) turns green.
Open a web browser and follow the directions on page 12.
The major issue with WiFi Extenders is that they create a separate WiFi network. Even if the extended WiFi has exactly the same credentials (WiFi SSID/password) as the primary network, it is still separate. This is fine for devices which do not move (computers, TVs, cameras, etc.) Mobile devices, however, such as phones, tablets, laptops, will not switch seamlessly between the primary network and the extender. That is what led to the development of "mesh" networks around 2016.
Xfinity, for example, offers mesh "Pods" for their WiFi systems. The web site says they are currently back-ordered.

Well, I tried this again and when i go to the mywifiext.com, it doesn't give me the setup and immediatley says i am not connected and there is no setup option. I even tried resetting to factor settings (using a paperclip to reset) twice, and it still will not connect. I give up. I will order the xfinity pod and hope that i stay with them for a while.
Thank you for trying to help.

Running into the exact same problem as you have. Wondering what new extender you purchased since it worked for you?
