Mar 31, 2019EX6150/AC1200 WiFi range extender - no internet
Hello everyone,
I've been using a Netgear EX6150 for years and it worked a charm all that time until the most recent firmware update. Since then, computer - a mac - tells me the device is connected, but when I try to connect to internet there is no connection. Nothing else has changed but the firmware - or I should say, had changed.
Since the first incidence, I tried every suggestion I could find on this site to no avail. (e.g. reset, various security settings, etc)
A curious thing is that all of the posts I see out here on this site say "Solved." However, when I read the posts therein, none are solved - not a single one.
Is this a known issue and everyone has just given up?
Thank you to anyone that might be able to help.

Try a factory reset and setup from scratch.
What is the distance between the EX and the main host router?
What is the mfr and model# of the main host router the EX is connected too?

Hi, thank you for your interest.
I have reset from scratch three times.
For this work, the EX has been sitting six inches from the host.
The host router is a Spectrum Wave 2 wireless router.
Thank you!

Thats too close, overlap in signal is killing the EX. I would try out at a distance of 20 feet.

What wireless modes are you using on the main host router? Mixed Mode or single N?
What channels are you using on the main host router? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Is Smart Connect a supported and enabled feature on the main host router by chance?

I am using both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz. I have tried it with single 2.4Ghz but it does not work that way either.
The channel is set to 11 for 2.4GHz and auto on 5GHz which has selected 36.
I cannot find in the configuration application or in the manual for the router whether it supports "Smart Connect." However, I have connected the Netgear EX6150 to the router by the WPS function as well as smart set-up in the Netgear app. I have done that using both wireless and ethernet cable. All of these I have started from the reset state. In all cases I have ended up with the same result. Any idea how I can check for "Smart Connect?"
Thanks!

You'll need to refer to the Mfr of the main host router for information. Maybe there is a user manual for it.
One last thing to try. Temporarily disable ALL WPA security on the main host router. Factory reset the EX and walk thru the setup wizard. It may let you know that the wirless security is disabled. Ok this. Complete the setup. Then test to see if you get anything thru the EX with no security on the wifi.
Then Re-enable WPA on the main host router. Set WPA2 and AES only.
What kind of PW are you using on the main host router? Long and complex or just something kind of simple for your need?
