EX6200 connection issues with the firmware version V1.0.3.68_1.1.104

My EX6200 is set up in AP mode, connected to a Fritzbox by a 1GB wired connection. After upgrading to the latest firmware, my Surface Pro 3 would not connect to either the 2 MHz or 5MHz bands. My Android phone, and my wife's iPhone, iPad and Chromebook all could connect, and my Surface Pro 3 could still connect to the Fritzbox. (It has all the latest Microsoft updates). After rolling back to the previous firmware, it connects to the Surface Pro 3 again. Looks to me like Netgear are relying on the user base to do their beta testing (and user support) for them. Even though my Ex6200 is only 9 months old, Netgear only offers paid support. A pretty poor effort all round. Many thanks to those users who posted the rollback solution.

    Hello Earlthorfinn

Thank you for the feedback about the surface pro 3 and we are sorry this issue happened as we cant test every device on the market but  I will pass this to the engineers about this device.

The latest firmware for this is a nightmare, do not install it. It seems like they didn't test anything the speed and the range makes it a useless product. Stick with 1.0.1 until they fix it.

I can also confirm this issue with a Surface Pro 3, running Windows 10 Build 10586.71, driver version 15.68.9037.59 for the Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller which just rolled out in the last week or so. I updated my AC1200 to this most recent firmware 1.0.3.68_1.1.104 and still the issue persists.

My unit is configured in FastLane mode to broadcast 5Ghz only to devices and use 2.4Ghz as the backhaul to the router. I've changed the setting under Device Manager -> Properties for Marvell AVASTAR Controller -> Advanced Tab -> Band -> 5Ghz Only and confirmed I can successfully connect to the other 5Ghz network coming off my primary AP. However upon attempting to connect to the AC1200 Extender I only get Limited/No Connectivity. I'm prompted for my password (WPA 2 Personal) and it appears to be connecting, but eventually times out and says No Internet.

Other devices including my new 5Ghz Chromecast and Moto Droid Turbo 2 can connect to the AC1200 Extender with no issues on 5Ghz. To me, this appears to be a driver compatibility issue with the Surface Pro 3 and AC1200 that has not been fully tested.

For what it's worth, I was having this same issue on the last version of firmware as well (both for the AC network adapter, and the AC1200 - issue persisted after surface was updated, then after AC1200 was updated).

Any suggestions I could try on my end to resolve? Thanks for your feedback!

  • I to have this issue with the new firmware on my ex6200.  With the new firmware I had trouble with the 2.7 mhz connection with it having restricted function and slow operation like excessive traffic.  The wps would fail due to time out.  The 5mhz worked fine.  After loading old firmware all worked fine.   This problem has been known for a while now, there is a old post on this problem which has been closed unsolved.

To add to this I have down graded this to software v1. 0.1.60_1.1.98.  This is working better but I have to restart it every day as it bogs down and get a lot of time outs.  As mine is under warranty I will be lodging a claim.  Does anybody else have a solution.  Really I'm thinking of throwing it in the bin and buying a different brand.
