I'd like to sset up my R8500 as a range extender or repeater.

I just swiched my internet from DSL  to Verizon Wireless.  I have a Novatel T1114 Tasman Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Broadband router which is pretty weak, signal wise.  I'd like to know how to connect the R8500 to it as the primary WiFi signal generator, and if possible I'd like to do that wirelessly.  I guess I'd be configuring it as a repeater.  If I can't do that, can I connect the two via Cat6 cable and use the R8500 as the WiFi generator?

  • OK, "TheEther"  that sort of did it.  I can print and scan from all my devices & PC's.  I can see the printer from everywhere on the network and vice-versa.  I cannot connect the printer to the network using either the router, printer or any of the PC's connection links, but that doesn't really matter, as long as the dang thing works, right?  Anyhow, thanks much for the help.  Couldn't have done it without you!

  • Connect the R8500 to your Verizon router via Cat6 cable and enable AP Mode on the R8500.  Repeater functionality doesn't work well on Netgear routers.

OK, I'm going to give that a try.  Really looking forward to seeing how the R8500 works, I've heard so much about it!  I'll keep you posted.....

Thanks!  Got everything set up but my printer....  It's an HP Officejet 7500 and it appears the MAC address filtering is the culprit, but I can't access MAC filtering on the router to change it.  Under the Advanced tab the security tab is grayed out and I can't figure out how in the hell I did that.  Can you point me in the right direction to get this printer on the network?  Many thanks...

The security settings are probably disabled while in AP Mode.  See if your main router has MAC address filtering enabled.

Yes, I can and did ping it.  It is also listed in the Genie's wireless network map, the network SSID is correctly liste on the wireless network summary page of the printer as well, and I can print from it.  But I can't use any of the printers other features, like scanning.  Yes, I've rebooted everything multiple times.

      Any other ideas?

Sorry to be such a pain in the ass...

If you can ping it, then it's not a MAC address filtering problem.

Does scanning work when the printer is connected to the Verizon Wi-Fi network?
